From Portugal, The Youths play great, old-fashioned, pissed-off, teenage rebellion punk ‘n’ roll. With garage rock stomping and production, complete with hand claps, this record is a fast, smart blast of angst done right. These guys are tuneful but don’t veer into pop-punk territory, this is a raw record from start to finish and is getting lots of play in my house at the moment. I’m hoping they can turn this into a full album someday soon. Fans of the Armitage Shanks, Billy Childish and The Reatards should take note.

The Youths are Portuguese kids playing hardcore punk, and they've knocked out one whopper of a debut record. That part of all of us that's eternally teenage can't help but relate to this gang's restless alienation and furious spirit of defiance. The sound is good old hardcore punk: fast but not warp speed, powerful but not abrasive, tuneful but not overtly poppy. This is great stuff: simple in approach, minimally produced, sung and played with urgency and conviction. In this day and age when young people are often dismissed as amoral, thoughtless wastoids, it's great to hear kids with something to say about the world and how they fit into it. "Zombie Youth" and "Decontrol" are raging indictments of the band's generation, lamenting widespread addictions to pills, popular culture, and the trappings of consumerism. "The Walls" is a burning call to break loose from the figurative restraints that keep us from being truly free. "Alone and Smiling" is one of the most honest and inspiring celebrations of punk music that I've ever heard:

“Decontrol” EP
I dunno if they are 14 or 40, but THE YOUTHS handle on expressing adolescent frustration is cut from the same mold as countless classics before them. Lyrical clichés such as dealing with a certain, inescapable bleak future or feeling like teenage zombies are in place for a reason I suppose, as shit like this seems to get me on board immediately. Maybe you’re never too old to feel this way? This single has the same sort of feel as recent retro Euros like the VICIOUS or TRISTESS, but packing a little more wallop. Pretty good shit! Another burning Latino punk band lighting up M-80 dreams of freedom under the numbskulls of complacent and frightened masses. The Youths sound like youths everywhere. Sick of playing the games that prepare them for an adulthood of diminishing returns and wanting more than choices of self-destruction in a society that moves towards global destruction. "Decontrol" uses the great 50s rock n' roll/70s glam technique of handclaps to accent the drugged apathy of their peers in mid tempo 70s/80s punk motorik. "Zombie Youth" speeds up a tad as the existential blues increase to George Romero levels. "The Walls" acts as the sonic battering ram against psychological /emotional walls that we build up as we socially get torn down. The Youths aim at the space behind the mental and physical walls they need to break in front of them and deliver 5 high thrills/low frills numbers in a style Roberto Duran or Muhammed Ali would appreciate.

So Portugal may be the poorest country in Western Europe, punk rock wise they are turning out to be rich rich rich and this awesome young band from Lisbon has a whole lot of punk rock talent /moolah stuffed down their tight black jeans. From the outset, they have the energy, hand claps, and distorted vocals that makes for a guaranteed raised arm salute. Classic 77 garage, mixed with a bit of Detroit and a whole lot of punk whoopness. Look out for their new 7 inch on Criminal IQ soon. Whats a Yoot? Come on, did you think I could let this review go by without that line from "My Cousin Vinny"? This Portuguese band proclaim that in the opening song, chanting We're the Youths repeatedly and it does sound like yoot. I'll stop being a wise-ass now because this a damn good demo. Jabbing 77 meets garage punk with a clean guitar sound and snotty cheap-mike vocals. "Decontrol" has some nifty hand-claps, as well. Oi pessoal... As "Sementes da Desordem" estão em contagem decrescente para a propagação oficial e desvendamos mais um tema do EP, "Escravo do Prazer".
Estamos a chegar ao fim de mais um ano e a época natalicia vai promovendo o capitalismo e o consumismo, pelo menos para os que vão podendo. Altura de lavar consciencias e de "ajudar o proximo"... E é no ambito do espirito de natal que os Ervas Daninhas irão ter durante todo o mês de Dezembro e até ao fim do ano mais um tema que faz parte do EP que está para sair brevemente, o tema tem por titulo "Escravo do Prazer" e apela ao prazer, ao sexo e ao amor. Explodão de prazer e façam-se viver!!
Aproveitamos também para deixar agradecimentos especiais a todos os que nos têm ajudado e apoiado neste e noutros anos. Agradecimentos ainda ao Paulão (Decreto 77) que gravou, produziu e foi o 6º elemento da banda no EP - "Sementes da Desordem"; João (Decreto 77) pela grande participação no tema "Guitarras de Guerra"; ao Arroja e ao Igor no "filme" criado para o tema "Bar da GNR". Ervas Daninhas - Sementes da Desordem" Punk's Unidos - Revolução!
Comé maltinha, prontos para mais um tema do nosso 1º EP "SEMENTES DA DESORDEM"?
Já podem escutar o revisitado tema "BAR DA GNR", tema nº 2 do EP e que precede às "GUITARRAS DE GUERRA". Este tema já com alguns anitos lavou a cara e foi gravado no inicio de 2009 com novos arranjos, mantendo no entanto todo o carisma que vez dele um dos hinos dos ERVAS DANINHAS. Durante 20 dias, mais ou menos, vão poder entrar no "BAR DA GNR" e buer uma cervejola e morfar uma entremeada e até mesmo apanhar uma carraspana sem ficarem de cana... Dêm gás no volume e acordem os vizinhos... pelo menos aqueles que dormem a sesta ao Domingo à tarde. O "BAR DA GNR" contou com a presença de dois convidados muito especiais, foram eles o Igor e o Arroja dos SHIVERS, que por entre copos de binho e assaltos à sacristia ainda tiveram tempo para uma ida à Sela... ops, desculpem o erro... uma ida à cela.

GEPOPEL “No one can stop advance” 7” B.F.E-01 From early to mid eighties Gepopel were doing noise for you amigo,,,much noise and very well done!.Now Noise and distortion records has release all their stuff so check it out. Anyway they have not include the first demo "No one can stop advance" that I consider also very great. In a different way the songs of the first demo were less fast hardcore and more lo-fi punk, similir to Urinals, some Chain gang.. Killed By Death , Messthetics compilations stuff ... "The day after" is a great lofi new wave punk song , and others like "Nato" or "Eenheidswors" could easily be done by the Pagans, but recording with 4-track of course! .... This is pure classic! conga conga!!
