OMON RA is Zachary Fairbrother and Daniel Miller. The two met in the
late summer of 2007. They bonded over Miller's record collection and
sci-fi novels. They decided they wanted to form a rock band that
encompassed their diverse backgrounds and musical influences.
Omon Ra have 2 records released on Fixture Records and a tape on
Divorce Records.
OMON RA II formed in the late summer of 2009, two years after Omon Ra. Former East Coast ex-pats and collaborators came together in Montreal to make music to make music. Combining their different influences and taking where part of OMON RA left off, exploring new directions and musics from around the world. The have a split tape coming out with DIRTY BEACHES on
CAMPAIGN FOR INFINITY.
OMMACOBBA AND THE EAST SIDE MARIJUANA BAND is Dan Miller's new project with members of THE ETHER, THE FRIENDLY DIMENSION, and FASCISM, it's crazy KRAUTROCK worship held in the temple of Faust with The Spirit of Jerry giving the sermon. Check out this track which moves through Warlock-esq rock n' roll with Contortions approved horn squeaks and skonks over top, to spacey Cluster-like ambiance, to Boredoms friendly drum jams.
Monolith 1 (February 28th, 2009 - Fixture Records) Order - $7 CD
Here's what people said
Andrew Robinson - The Coast - Omon Ra's musical approach is freewheeling and unafraid to delve into
unexpected territory. "Monolith 1" is a beautiful collection of lo-fi
acoustic ditties, highlighted by playful arrangements.
Hawaiian Winter Music Review - 9/10
The Halls of Medicine (September 9th, 2008 - Fixture Records)
Here is what people have said
Blastitude Blog - A couple guys from Halifax, Nova Scotia recording dragged-out zoner-folk that is capable of some pretty exquisite atmosphere...these guys are definitely on to something, comparable to Sic Alps but a little more patient, less truncated, more willing to just let a song be what it is.
Beatroute - Omon Ra embodies a mental recovery of friends finding meaning in their own musical journey. The band's unique and enigmatic folk-gazing sound reflects beyond the distant stars to reach remote planets far away. The Halls of Medicine is the most recent release from Omon Ra and, by far, their most complete record to date...The Halls of Medicine is filled with beauty and chaos to ironically create a sense of recovery in each song.
Sue Carter Flinn - The Coast - Omon Ra's first album on Fixture Records, The Halls of Medicine, sounds as if it was recorded inside an astronaut's suit. Daniel Miller and Zachary Fairbrother's psychedelic folk is filled with contradictions, such as mixing Sonic Youth-inspired drone with lyrics that could come out of a Devendra Banhart songbook.
The Dalhousie Gazette - Omon Ra has created your new favorite psychedelic album to read On the Road along to. Buy this album.
Tape split with Chris D'Eon out now on Divorce records
Chris d'Eon recently renounced his post as ranter for Halifax's noise punk band Dead Hookers to dedicate his time to heady, psychedelic world music. His songs are a tasteful appropriation of exotic drones and jams meant for the outer realms. On the flip side, Omon Ra play laid back psych that mixes the band's Krautrock obsessions with their way-stoned pop sensibility. Two of my favorite Halifax projects right now. Edition of 100.

Here's what people have said:
Weird Canada - Divorce Records found an odd paring between Omon Ra and Chris d’Eon. In what will likely become a flag-ship release within Canada’s psychedelic tapestry, we (finally) see the benefits of our quilting of culture. Within both sides of this cassette are woven threads of proven psychedelic fybre...Side B captures Omon Ra conjuring ethereal, western acid with layered vocals, distorted drones, and subdued-pop. It’s catchy, droney, vaguely-emotional, and a certified trip. Omon Ra will become a leading creative mind in Canada...
Byron Coley - The Wire - Nova Soctia's Omon Ra and Quebec's Chris D'eon meet for an Eastern-tinged psych hoedown. And we're all winners...Good drugs? Yes indeed.
