Influences
Not all so much influences as inspiration... Son Volt, Johnny Cash, Ryan Adams, Allman Brothers, Big Head Todd, Rhythm Jones, Todd Snider, Otis (The Big O), Jay Farrar, SRV, BB, Muddy, EC, John Lee, Willie, New Sun Union, Mato, and of course, Zeppelin too.
With roots planted firmly in blues and classic rock, Thief River melds four unique musicians together to form a band with a dynamic range and an affinity for strong, original songs.
The band came together as a four-piece in 2007, but all four members have been playing and touring in various capacities since the mid 90’s. From orchestral tours and churches to dive bars and college campuses, their varying experiences all shape their current sound.
Thief River is by no means a cover band, but songs by The Black Crowes, Big Head Todd and classic blues artists have all found a place in Thief River’s setlist and are a perfect complement to their original sound.
Currently gigging about once a month in the Twin Cities, Thief River has developed a loyal fanbase and garnered praise from fellow musicians and promoters. Thief River is a “band’s band” – strong powerful vocals, tight and talented rhythm section, classic, commanding lead guitar, and no-nonsense songwriting.
With this committed lineup now in place, Thief River is poised to make an impression on the Minneapolis music scene and is looking forward to getting into the studio in 2008 to capture a more current representation of their sound than the acoustic demo available here.
