THIERRY ARPINO - DRUMMER Intensity, Focus, Depth and Sensibility are Thierry Arpinos self-characterization in four words. If there is one thing Thierry respects in a drummer, is to be fully committed.His greatest influences are Tony Williams, Billy Cobham, Elvin Jones, Steve Gadd and of course his own Father. Everything Thierry plays, reflects himself. Thierry Arpino speaks about how he so much loves Elvin Jones and Tony Williams, as well as rock drummers because they play with power, forcefully and with deepness. Raised in France, Thierry earned a profound respect of peers and fans, by covering just to name a few; Jazz, Rock, Fusion, World, African, Brazilian, Cuban music. His face has frequently appeared in Batteur magazine. All of Thierry' s real drumming and music idols were American wich naturaly lead, after an educational stay at Boston's Berklee College, his professors to urge him to stay to in the US. Finally, a few years later Arpino made his move to The Big Apple. In New York City, he began performing with an astounding variety of artists and his polyvalence in music makes it that he is constantely solicited. Thierry has shared his talents and the stage with the most renowned and talented artists, among them the electric violinist Jean Luc PONTY, for whom he has extensively recorded and toured.
At 3 years old Thierry started to play his spare dad's drum set installed at home. After 2 years of banging this set all the time, his father started to give him some drum lessons. That was one of the best things he could ever give to Thierry!
One of his most incredible experience on stage also was when Thierry jammed with BB King at the Montreux Jazz Festival few years ago. Do you think they played a blues?... for 15 minutes! Just to think about it makes him fly again. Yes, BB King with his entire big band and! with Joe Sample on the Fender Rhodes as a guest ! Incredible and MAaAA ZING Experience !
