Bio
Having studied classical double bass at the conservatory in Paris , obtained a B.A. in music theory and composition at the Universite de Paris VIII, I have played classical, contemporary, reggae, salsa and jazz music for the past twenty years .In 1999, I kicked off my first jazz group,TIGRAN QUARTET(solar melodies, snaky bass lines ) playing with people like j.b. rehault, remi dumoulin,f.theuillon on reeds,matthias mahler,michael joussein,on trombone and l.roignant and drums - and wrote all the compositions. My current project ,ASTARGALLUS, a quartet with stephane payen on sax, xavier bornens on trumpet ,ianik tallet on drums and myself on the bass proposes a contemporary take on the vision of jazz that musicians like jelly roll morton had. This means finding a good, solid, sometimes slippery playground and then playing with our bodies and souls! The playground can also be as complex and disturbing as a labyrinth! So mind your step! Parallel to this, I've played a lot of improvised music, developping a telluric approach of the bass with people like jean borde, fred wallish, andras vigh, frantz loriot, regis huby, valerie quintin, dante feijoo, pascal marzan, yoko miura,jonas kocher, benoit moreau...
