Craig & Joan have been making music together since 2002 and on their own for a few years before that.
After completing her Bachelor of Music, Joan moved to London (the Real One) where she fulfilled a life-long dream of singing in sleazy wine bars. But after three years gigging around London, Canada beckoned.
Meanwhile, Craig re-discovered his love for finger-picking and one fateful October evening found him @ Sled Dog, falling in love with Morgan - the guitar of his dreams.
Joan and Craig finally met "on the mat", training in Aikido, but soon found they shared an eclectic taste in music and musicians. They love performing the work of other musicians as much as they enjoy writing and singing their own. Gigs include the Whiteshell Music Festival, the Winnipeg Fringe outdoor stage, the Wolseley Street Festival, McNally Robinson, Mona Lisa, Academy Bar & Eatery, Fort Gibralter, Keepsakes Gallery, the Winnipeg Winter Club, house concerts, fundraisers and private functions.
Their first album, PRETTY GOOD REASON was co-produced with John Schritt (Elias, Schritt & Bell), who also plays flute, accordian and shaker on it. PRETTY GOOD REASON is available at McNally Robinson (Grant Park), the Winnipeg Folk Festival's HomeMade Music, and Candor Books.
ABOUT THE SONGS
SHADOWS - Written over a few November evenings just before the first snow. A little melancholy but still hopeful. We like happy endings.
PRETTY GOOD REASON - Craig was inspired by watching too much CNN. It's got a happy ending in more ways than one: he disconnected his cable.
WINDSONG - Craig was noodlin' on the back steps and said he was inspired by the wind. Joan wrote the lyrics out at the lake. Dedicated to Kel Brooker. Pace, Kel.
MOVIN' ON - This is Craig's "why are we here" song. He asks that a lot... he's never satisfied with the answer.
THIN ICE - Craig wrote the music for this many moons ago. Joan wrote the lyrics over a September weekend at the lake. (People often ask which came first... the song or the name of the band. It's our own little chicken/egg conundrum. Craig always says don't count yer eggs before they're chickens...)
SUMMERTIME - One of Joan’s “party songs”… altho’ she didn’t sing it like this until she met Craig. (Thanks for the flute, John!)
