   Not half bad Luther's Blurbs
About me:
I moved to Sunnymead when I was 6 years old and my father was transferred to March AFB. I attended Midland Elementary, Alessandro Elementary, Sunnymead Elementary, Alessandro Junior High, and Moreno Valley High School. I didn't care too much for high school and partied a lot. I mostly hung out with a group of AF kids who just hung out and partied. I did so until part way through the 11th grade when I started "steady-dating" the same girl who I thought I was going to marry once I finished college and got a "good job."

After graduating from MVHS (barely) I enrolled in RCC full time and in my first semester I passed 4 out of 5 classes, having dropped sociology. I hated that class. Second semester I passed 3 out of 5 classes dropping another two classes, one of them again being sociology, I really hated that class. My third and final semester I dropped all my classes and it was time for a change. My girlfriend and I wanted to get married and I needed a job to do that. Plus this college thing didn't seem to be working out for me, so over her objections, I joined the Air Force. Sadly, only two and a half months later I got a "Dear John" phone call while in tech-school at Keesler AFB in Mississippi. C'est la vie, no?

After finishing tech school I received my first permanent duty assignment at the Strategic Air Command HQs, Offutt AFB, Nebraska. Let me tell you friends, the "Great Plains" is no place for a good SoCal boy to be hanging out, it is freaking COLD! I made lots of new friends, chased a few skirts, and just generally drifted through life without thinking about the future. About 6 months before I was eligible to separate from the Air Force, which I was hating by the way, my first-shirt asked me if I wanted to "early-out." I had not saved a dime, I had no plan, but I did have a clue. I told him hell no, I am going to re-enlist! Both of us were surprised.

From Offutt AFB I went to Edwards AFB in California. I had a great time living once again in SoCal, and after making Sergeant I finally had a little money in my pocket and was "young, dumb, and full of…the juices of life." I met my first wife while stationed there; we were working together running the new main-frame base computer system and one thing lead to another, as they often do in work/lust/love situations. We were married in the base chapel, my brother Mike was my best man, and my father Lew gave away the bride. We partied till 2am and stopped by the computer room to drop off the rest of the wedding cake to the guys working that night and we wound up working for the next couple hours trying to fix a system problem. They should have called someone else, but we knew the "someone else" was in no shape to be driving or working because she was drunk off her ass from our reception. So there we were, my new bride in her wedding dress and me in tails, both banging on keyboards in the middle of the night when we should have been "consummating." But as they say, it was all good.

Our tour at Edwards was over as 3 years had come and went; we were off to Gunter AFS in Montgomery, Alabama and the Standard System Center (SSC). Whilst stationed there we had two children Luke ('88) and Wil ('90), purchased a house, and just enjoyed "southern" life. We became experts in our respected duties and traveled the country making sure the new software the SSC released actually worked. But the 3 years were up and it was off to Germany!

Germany rocked, but Patch Barracks, a small army post in Stuttgart, sucked. I don't know how you army people do it, but more power to you. While stationed there my wife left active duty and took that pile of money they were offering in the "draw-down" of the 1990's. I loved Germany but all that beer and brats were making my uniforms shrink, plus the assignment was over and it was time to move again, this time our destination was Robins AFB, Warner Robins, Georgia and the 5th Combat Comm, or the Mob as it is "affectionately" known.

The Mob was a life changer. No longer did I have to move every 3 years because of the Air Force had changed a bit and the Mob had lots of volunteers to leave it ASAP because of the constant temporary duty (TDY) and worldwide deployments to the biggest sh*t-holes on the planet. So I found a home, but my wife didn't so much like it and divorced me, which freed me up for more deployments and TDYs. I didn't want to be divorced, but hey, when life gives you lemons…and while deploying, and TDYing, and chasing women, and drinking too muchy I met the love of my life, Becky.

We long distance dated because she lived in Toronto about 1,000 north of my little apartment in Warner Robins. She moved in with me on a tourist visa in 2000, we married in 2001 and she started her immigration process which took three years to complete. She did the paperwork herself without the aid of an immigration lawyer; it turns out she is mighty smart and tenacious too. During that time she finished her BAA in film from Ryerson University, got a job at Macon State College (MSC) as a technical expert of some ilk, and started work on her master's degree. I finally got my AA in Information Systems Management from CCAF and it was time to retire after 23 years and 8 months of active duty. I went to work the very next day for a temporary staffing agency called Manpower.

While working my first month at Manpower I learned just how sheltered my life in the Air Force had been. In Georgia, the civilian world was full of slackers, losers, and racist folks that are not found in ones daily life in the military. I was stunned and disappointed. I did not want to be a part of a working environment such as that, so I made a plan. I needed to finish my BS so I could manage slackers and losers, not work alongside of them. My work with Manpower lasted about 8 months, during that time I started back to college taking two classes per semester. A month or so before I stopped working at Manpower I took the test for the US Postal Service and was hired 3 months later as a forwarding clerk.

I had hoped that working in a federal agency would be better than my time at Manpower, but sadly there were still slackers and losers, plus I had to work 10 hours a day, 6 days a week. Good money, but I was never home. Sure, plenty of money for sushi, playing pool, and strippers, all with Becky in tow of course, and it was fun, but wow, I had to be to bed by 8pm so I could be up at 3am and work till 2pm, plus homework and class? I resigned my postal position after 7 months before I went postal; in January of 2005 I enrolled as a full time BS student at MSC majoring in business with a minor in information technology. We ate quite a bit of beans and rice over the next few years, but we still took the time to do sushi and pool about once a month. Our money situation got a little easier though, Luke turned 18 and I no longer had to pay his child support, and the ex decided to "empty-the-nest" that summer and she booted Wil (16) out and he moved in with us, (I didn't know she told him he HAD to move, I only found that out later, but that is a whole other story) so his child support went to supporting him in our house and paying half the mortgage in the process.

Fast forward to May of 2008 and you will find me graduating with a 3.9 GPA, Wil graduating high school with a 3.2 GPA for his senior year (that was a struggle), Becky finishing her master's degree (4.0, she is such a brainiac), purchasing and moving to a little 3/2 cottage in Clearwater Florida, and selling our 4/2 house in Warner Robins. If you recall the housing market was in the beginning of that sub-prime mess and starting to crash, but we timed it right and paid about $100,000 less than market for the Florida house and took $7,000 less that we were asking for the Georgia house, even without college I can tell that is $93,000 to the good.

We work from home in the editorial business Becky and I started in 2007, it pays the bills, our commute to work is to our home office, and we live in paradise only 5 blocks from the intercoastal waterway and 5 miles from Clearwater Beach. We start each day with coffee and the news, do a little editing work in our office, send some emails, and about noon we finally get out of our pajamas, take our showers, and run any errands that need to be taken care of. Wil is a freshman at St. Petersburg College and I certainly hope he doesn't have the problems with sociology that I did, but at least I know I can help because I finally passed that class, and ironically, I loved it this time.

The following is the dust jacket blurb for my yet unwritten great American novel.

About the author:

Luther Hendricks served more than two decades at the behest of a grateful nation, from the deserts of Southern California to those of the Middle East. Born in Libya at the height of the cold war, he speaks three languages, is an expert marksman and a qualified combat communications specialist. He enjoys piloting single engine aircraft, backcountry camping, small arms training, endurance swimming, and Tai Chi. Luther is an early riser and goal focused; his personal mission statement is, "I don't like to do things, I like to get things done."

Since leaving the military, Luther has enjoyed the slower pace of civilian life. He has earned an Associate in Applied Science degree from the Community College of the Air Force in information systems technology (2003), an Associate of Science in business from Macon State College (2006), and graduated suma cum laude from the MSC business school's Bachelors' program (2008). He anticipates graduate school is in his future, but only after completing his Greek language studies, learns to surf and sail, and has run the Athens Marathon.

Luther has worked as a main-frame computer operator, software quality assurance specialist, communications center manager, tactical communications facility chief, an independent contractor, computerized mail forwarding clerk, and as a supply chain manager for the federal government. Looking for greater challenges, Luther co-founded Virtual CKS, a web based editorial company. The business has been a run-away success with clients in both domestic and international markets. He is currently authoring content for several domestic text book publishers and is expecting even greater things for the future. Luther is a father of two adult sons and is married to the former Becky Slocombe, of the Toronto Slocombes.

Hey There :o)

You left me a comment on my latest blog I am assuming it was the latest one, but I took it down before I recieved a myspace notification that you posted a comment to be approved.

I wonder what you had to say?

I took the blog down cause I was tired when I wrote it, and it was not composed well.  Some of the stuff in it that I said could have been stated with more tact, and stated differently to convey a more complete picture with less room for misunderstanding my message.

I am going to repost something like it, once I have had time to actually write it well, I just get so frustrated sometimes by my experiences...lol.

I know I probubly have some of the most retarded blogs ever at least some of them...lol

Thanks for reading them.  :o)
