"This debut as a leader by pianist/multi-instrumentalist/composer Mariah Parker unveils a collection of eight original instrumental scores. Labeled as an Indo-Latin jazz musical experience, Parker and friends blend the rhythmic syncopations of Latin jazz music with the entrancing, asymmetrical meters of East Indian rhythms resulting in first-class world music." — LATIN BEAT MAGAZINE
"This is an excellent album from pianist Mariah Parker, whose work is best described as world jazz. Parker brings a wide variety of influences to Sangria, ranging from Indian and Middle Eastern music to Afro-Cuban salsa and Brazilian samba. She obviously appreciates the Eastern-influenced spirituality and mysticism of John Coltrane, Yusef Lateef, Pharoah Sanders, and Lonnie Liston Smith, but her composing also contains elements of everyone from Pat Metheny to Chick Corea. Parker, of course, didn't invent the idea of world jazz... but she keeps it moving forward, demonstrating that the fusion of jazz and world music still has plenty of possibilities after all these years." — ALL MUSIC GUIDE
"This collection of eight original instrumentals by Mariah Parker is just one of many examples of the infusion of East Indian music into Western music, but to my ears one of the most successful. — John Sunier, AUDIOPHILE AUDITION
"Parker kicks off her solo career with a well textured world beat date that finds her multi-instrumentalist abilities and her wide open ears leading the way. There's nothing but pros on board here who know what to do and they do it in a lively, spontaneous fashion that really grabs you. First class world beat that really covers the bases." — MIDWEST RECORDS

Hi Mariah Great latin jazz you are doing!! I love latin jazz and my music is very much inspired from it. I once tryed to play the cimbalom, but I gave up...... Best wishes from Denmark
Hello Mariah, Thanks so much for the Add–and your friendship. We enjoyed your music very much. Thanks for sharing it with all of us. It's a pleasure having you among our friends! We've added two blogs about Umano, plus four more new compositions, making ten on our page. We hope you and your friends visit us and enjoy our music, too. We wake up every morning and play the music of the new MySpace friends who have arrived at our site during the night. It occurred to us that these friends (you are among them) are almost universally positive, whether they be novices or legends, and without regard to their station in life or the country they occupy. Although it's not an original thought, it also occurred to us that we couldn’t hold a verbal conversation with most of these friends, but we have bridged that gap by expressing our art honestly with each other. We all have been filling the world with our music and art, in the hope that our messages of love and human understanding will have an impact on the world at large. What a gift and what an opportunity we have received from this technology! ♫♫♫ Thom & Lorry Gambino ♫♫♫ New York, New York

OR, Mariah, I could just hold onto the CD and use the fact that I just "need" to get it autographed as an excuse to take a (very)expensive trip/vacation that I really can't afford and make it to the West Coast for a concert where I can get it autographed in person?..Kind of poor justification maybe...but I will let you know in advance if I do go that route..and if I decide I really can't wait, then I will have to send the booklet by snail I guess, after all..but I still like my first idea better!
Mariah-Sick of hearing from me yet? I just wanted to let you know-because I don't see it mentioned here, that your solo album is also available on Amazon.com. I'm not a download kind of guy if I can purchase a physical CD, and i've been listening to your tracks posted here and I just had to buy a copy myself. I just ordered it-can't wait until it arrives now.....Now I just gotta figure out how to get it autographed! Gary
And it WOULD be a great album too, i'm sure. WHENEVER it gets done. Right now, you've got collaborators and a band. But at some point they may be busy or not available..and THAT might be the time to do some work (or at least compose) for a project like that. And I promise to be the first in line to pick it up. So that racks up sale number 1...
Well, i'm SURE the material you have is excellent based on what i've heard of your other work, and if you're excited about it, then it certainly must be worthwhile. Besides the musicnas you've played with really are the cream of the crop, so I certainly understand wanting to do more with them.. My idea behind suggesting a solo project was essentially me planting a seed to keep in the back of your mind-and my desires of what I heard you doing in the future based on certain things I heard in your existing music, and of course, your playing and composing style.. I say I was at least partially successful in getting the idea into your mind so perhaps one day it can see fruition?
Thanks Mariah-have a great one as well. Hope to chat with you soon.. Oh and by the way (not that you asked), but I would LOVE to see you do an all-solo recording some day..You know, with overdubbing perhaps..some piano, santur duets, maybe several santur parts like a Steve Reich kind of thing (but with your touch, naturally). Maybe you could even play a tiny bit of hand percussion (i'm sure you're able)..maybe a touch of synthesizer? Not sure if you've messed around with a synth, but listening to "Sangria" I could hear you do a piece with piano, santur, and some soft strings from a synth in the background...It was easy for me to picture you doing something like that & I wonder if the idea ever crossed your mind..or am I just crazy??? Need a producer, LOL? All my best- Gary
I'm glad i "read" it correctly Mariah. because I got the feeling looking at it that life is just not filled with enough moments like this and made me kind of want to seek out things that would get me to that "place", if that makes any sense.. Still, meeting wonderful new friends here like yourself is certainly bringing me much closer to that goal!
