About me:
.OUR MISSION
Thirteen Pocket is a vehicle for the development and offering of original works. We will explore all mediums of artistic communication in pursuit of a specific and individual connection with as many members of our community as possible. With this endeavor, we plan to ignite and inspire in those around us the desire to act upon their beliefs and convictions and say all of those things that cannot be left unsaid.
.OUR VISION
Thirteen Pocket is a collection of artists driven solely by the idea of uncensored invention. The vision of the institution is threefold:
Our first pledge is to become a foundation for the development and offering of bold and original works. This dedication to original material is rooted in the need to establish conversation within our community. By addressing the relevant and current issues that exist in our world we see the ability to evoke change within our audience. New opinions, new politics, and new experiences are at the core of the evolving spirit, and without examining these things we cannot hope to grow as a community or as a people. By a singular devotion to new works we plan on being not only a home for growing young artists, but a kind of mother to these infant ideas and their resulting developments. What we seek is reaction within the community… that is, most literally, a response to an action regardless of what that response may be. For us or against us, our want is to assault apathy with a deep conviction and draw out within our audience the need to take a stance.
Our second priority includes a complete abandonment of the ideas and limits of medium. We have committed to this principal in hopes for a return of absolute rectitude from our work. We strongly believe that in the act of embracing one single form of the communicative act, that there is ultimately, as a result, the denial of another. In this denial a connection is lost, and along with it a more complete understanding of the message being presented. To combat any kind of repression in our work, we have taken an active attack against this idea itself, and seek the constant challenge of new and unfamiliar forms of expression. We plan to show examples of this idea in every season that we develop and present to the public.
Our third commitment is focused on the growth and the development of our Artistic Collective. Thirteen Pocket has pledged itself to not only a constant collaboration with new artistic minds, but to seeking them out within our community. We want to posture ourselves as a forum for young artists… to give them the opportunity to approach and collaborate with one another outside of Thirteen Pocket. We plan on doing this through a series of introductory events, internet forums, resource lists and word of mouth . Once a person works within Thirteen Pocket, in whatever capacity it may be: technician, actor, poet, dancer, musician, painter or playwright… that person is immediately accepted into our Artistic Collective and is invited to reap the benefits of the growing community attached to that title. In creating this collective we hope to encourage the kind of inventive spirit in others that we hold so dear to our own definition as a company.
By a clear and constant commitment to these concepts we hope to establish ourselves as a unique and important organization within the Chicago community. And as always, within this definition we as a company strive to find the freedom and worth in always being able to redefine ourselves.
This is Thirteen Pocket’s vision.
