  • Television

To be honest, I haven't been a regular watcher in a very long time, I do not have even basic cable, and I feel guilty for having a TV or having wasted a good 20 to 40% (who knows?) of my life burning my brains in front of the cathode ray tube.

But if you had to twist my arm....

About me:

..Jeff O'Connell's Litany of Misdeeds
Jeff O'Connell's Ship
Craft yer' jolly roger..

I’ve lived haphazardly(for reasons regarding financial circumstances, indecision, low self-esteem, and just a little bit of paranoia).

I have traveled (however slightly) to Washington State, California, Ontario Province (Woodstock, Stony Creek, and Ottawa), The Carolinas, across the U.S. (bus and road trips), and Pennsylvania. Just made my first visit to Toronto this past April, and hope to go back again soon.

Someday, I want to visit various countries in Europe, Asia, and South America. The moon would be nice for an overnight visit, too. :P

I’ve hitchhiked in the past. Had very mixed experiences: some fun, some very uncomfortable and frustrating, and others on the grimy side of weird.

I love bicycling (though I do not have a bike at the moment) and driving (no car, either…..but a clean driver’s license, and inclination for both driving like a maniac and avoiding both accidents and speeding tickets [except for two]).

Whenever possible, I love to swim (preferring to bathe in unsalted water) and hike the wilderness hills, the state and national parks, and city streets...which in some areas should probably be labeled dangerous "post-industrial wilderness" by now...

I am a film fanatic (used to be a 35mm projectionist in Ithaca.... check out Cinemapolis and Fall Creek Pictures ).

And a reading fanatic (used to also be a library clerk at the Ithaca city library; wasn't a great experience, unforunately, so sorry...not going to provide the link, but I WILL recommend my current one: Buffalo And Erie County Public Library.

I would like to seriously pursue more creative pursuits (writing, film making - be it film or digital - and photography, music, visual illustration, anything...), but have had trouble over the years in finding the concentration and discipline to make those achievements happen.

My ancillary second interests (perhaps for creative fuel?) range anywhere from history to politics to science to computers to languages to social sciences to assorted weirdness...

I need to get back into being involved with more pressing concerns over preserving Earth's ecology, since it is very apparent that the human race is almost of out time. Is it "Kill The Planet, Save Yourself?" or the other way around? Or is there a realistic third way?

I’ve had plenty of dumb jobs, went to lousy public secondary schools, attended a lame small-town community college, washed out of two SUNY schools within 2 ½ years time, and am now currently enrolled at the University at Buffalo to finish my Bachelor's Degree....whenever and whatever THAT will be.

I would also like to get a Master's and Ph.D, too....and hope that those achievements are not vague pipe-fever dreams or science-fiction (in addition to actually molding CAREERS out of those degrees with a staggering 6-figure loan debt).

I have plenty of faults. I am a procrastinator, a worrier, an obsessive-compulsive, socially awkward and inept (though some people claim this not to be so), a withdrawn recluse, an introvert, both an optimistic dreamer and bitter cynic, low self-esteem and a prickly ego, and a stubborn S.O.B. at times (owing to my astrological sign, I guess).

To be honest, I don't know WHAT to define myself as. "If I knew who I was, I'd be home right now..."

However, after several years of misadventures, failure, indecision, and trepidation, I think I've finally gained the courage to say at least a few good things about myself.

Who I'd like to meet:

A diverse amount of people spanning ages, genders, ethnicities, and geographic borderlines.

I will welcome any real people (i.e. no spammed band ads or bimbo-porn spambots or worse) to message me.

I'm still struggling to get over procrastinations regarding returning messages and blogging, but I'll keep trying. If you don't hear from me for a few days or weeks, don't worry...I will try to get back to you, if you seem worthwhile to trade words, wisdom, and barbs.

Hmm..who else?

"Cool" people, I guess...whatever THAT's supposed to me an anymore. I don't know. Don't think I ever knew. I do not consider myself "cool" at all...

[ come to think about it, I'll be happy to hear from "hot" people, too...;) ]

Creative people, especially, yes!

I prefer to stay on the Leftist side of the French-derived political coin. I want the Bush/Republican Nazi Junta that is destroying this country (and in collusion with certain corporations and dictatorships) to be annihilated, and more progressive leaders to help steer ole U.S.A. into a healthier direction.

However, I am not a mindless, act-before-you-think radical "anarchist," and I will also consider alternate opinions from the other sides of the aisle, be they centrist and conservative voices (as long as their reasoning is sound, their dialogue is respectful, and they do not come across as FOX-News/Rush Limburger/Bill O'Slimy-type assholes...or worse).

I am an agnostic. I am not pro-fundamentalist concerning any belief system by any stretch of the imagination (though sometimes, I envy those who have "extreme" religious awakenings, a rush of altered consciousness akin to certain drug and psychological experiences).

I recognize the value of spirituality in people's lives and communities as a means of survival and psychological nourishment. I'm not sure I can agree with the tenets of many religious beliefs, though.

As I've mentioned above, I don't know who I am, or what to believe in. I would hope that gets resolved one day, without sacrificing any semblance of my "opened" mind. Come to think about it, I wouldn't mind opening my "third" eye as well. ;)

I do enjoy "collecting" different music, film, book, activist, and "unusual" MySpace pages, if only to expand my knowledges and tastes regarding these fields.

I will not automatically accept EVERY solicitation, and I might delete some from time to time for arbitrary reasons (lack of interest, sudden dislike, sudden inner-emotional turmoil, etc.).

Yes, I wouldn't mind hooking up with a new girlfriend and exploring heretofore untried erotic adventures. As well as simple love and friendship.

But I'm resigned to the fact (in the past, and for now) that the ones I tend to feel the strongest attraction for are either already "claimed" or do not like me. And I am often repelled at (some) of the handful that ARE (but that's a complex and difficult topic that I do not wish to discuss further here...).

There's a part of me telling me that, "The part where you say on MySpace, which according to USA Today whom is running a distant second to FaceBook [which I've also got a profile on], "I'd Like to Meet..." is still under "construction." Yes, it is true, and more of a product of my OCD tendency to regiment things by date in order to create a sense of coherence. Don't pay it no mind. It's OK, because nobody really visits here, anyway.

Have you ever wanted to donate your time or money to what seemed like a worthy cause only to find out that said charity is run by a religious organization that discriminates against certain minorities(non-believers, homosexuals, etc...) or uses significant portions of its funds to proselytize to and convert those in need of help?

If so, then you’re not alone. I know I’ve ran into this conundrum on many occasions and that is why I have...http://blogs.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.viewcustom&friendId=376709009&blogId=524333263

Bible Stories Your Parents Never Taught You

There exists in the world today a nearly universal presumption that the Holy Bible is a "good" book. This presumption is reinforced all around us. Bible versus are etched into the walls of our national monuments. Churches operate tax-expempt. Even the President of the United States takes his oath of office with one hand planted firmly on a Bible. Mike Earl thinks it's time we get beyond this false presumption and see the Bible for what it is.
In Bible Stories Your Parents Never Taught You Earl exposes us to stories of looting, murder, genocide, torture, slavery, and other biblical atrocities that have failed to register in the minds of the general public. Mike argues that an awareness of these atrocities not only enables us to base our opinions of the Bible on fact, it also helps us to recognize the Bible's profound influence on many of history's most violent and brutal episodes. Bible Stories Your Parents Never Taught You is a 'shock and awe' campaign against the presumed moral irreproachability of the Holy Bible. It is a much needed dose of moral clarity in an age of religious confusion and godly violence. (Click here to read more)
