SNAP OF THE DAY: THIS DEVILS YOURS
"Sheffield's This Devils Yours prove their musical credentials remain firmly intact with a number of lush, melancholic songs of late night reverie. Delicate orchestration and swirling, ghostly electronic backing mask the piano led balladry of 'Cities', which sees vocalist Paul Littlewood pummelling emotion into his folky chords, which are part John Martyn - a listed influence - and part Richard Thompson. Visit their MUZU page for a live video and a few more MP3s to tempt your favour." CMU network
"It might seem a little too early for an early nineties revival, but TDY's sound is hard to define singularly, but mines similar territory to darker pre-grunge fare like Depeche Mode's Violator without the electronics, Suede's more downcast moments, or the Cure' Disintegration without the goth undertones. Fade Out is particularly successful, a moody and effective song." Dion Curry, Sandman Magazine
The Devils sound is full of shadows. Its heart rattles with machine noise, crackles, distortion.
Despite the pulse of darkness, the first thing that touches you is the emotion – driven by the visceral power of Paul Littlewood’s unique and soulful voice. The intense intimacy of the songs evokes a familiar taste, yet there is nothing on their debut album ‘SUB’ that can easily be pigeon-holed.
Sometimes quiet and gentle, sometimes fierce and relentless; from the simplicity of piano and vocal to the in-your-face aggression of the band at full tilt, ‘SUB’ is a starkly original fusion of different sounds and ideas.
This is a new, young Sheffield band with something to say.

"The Sweet Hollywaiians have probably the best feel for this 20's music of any string band working today. They manage the rare feat of sounding relaxed even when their playing is hot, are top notch musicians with tasteful arrangements and a full, rich, warm sound.Plus, they have a nice gamut of tunes, from King Nawahi to Giovanni Vicari to Bobby Leecan. See them live, if you can, for an unforgettable experience. If you can't, buy their Cds!" ~ Terry Zwigoff
