This is where you can now hear music by BIGTOE and all of his projects: The Crabs, The Waking Shits, Hank Wygston, Jimmy Lazarus, The Incubators and a few more besides. You can catch previews of rare acoustic recordings by big tree as they come hot off the press as well as blasts from the past, maybe even some Headrush for those of you that remember, we'll have to see.
BIGTOE is a singer songwriter, radio DJ at PHONIC FM, polymath film-maker whose music has made it onto Radio 3's 'Mixing It' program, been screened at Cannes Film Festival, been performed and the Summer Sundae festival, Strawberry Fayre and numerous venues all over the UK. He's been signed to Stayfree Records as a memebr of the seminal Leicester scene trailblazers 'Headrush' contributing blistering guitar to the influential E.P. 'Five'. This year he has released music as BigToe in collaboration with the excellent Bathysphere Records and their producers Sofalofa and Asmo. Heady days indeed. In addition to this he's scored numerous short films, documentaries and is working on a range of moving image, music and workshop projects.
Currently unsigned he's working on new material, hunting gigs and any interested parties to collaborate with and promote Big Tree in all its forms. The music has been compared to Nick Drake, Nico, Syd Barret, Jon Spencer, Wilco and XTC. Live he's been wowing audiences from St Ives to Cylde St. with his unique acoustic show that has been known to make grown men cry and talk loudly at the bar.
Hello, we're back again with great new tracks on our page. This month we have some rural bleakness from The Roe Family Singers, the dark intensity of Eamon Dowd, a new song from roots legend Neal Casal and frenetic but compelling from Novillero on the delightfulyl titled but not-at-all-smelly Paco Rabanne. Hope you like them all.
Hello and a Happy New Year to you. An eclectic bunch of songs new to the site this month. The frankly uncategorisable Icelandic band Storsveut Nix Noltes, the sardonic lyics (plus ukelele) of Dent May. some dark folk from The Deep Dark Woods and emerging US singer-songrwiter Israel Nash. Hope you like them all.
Hello. For our final update of 2008 we have a track from the wonderful Todd Snider, classic sounds from The Snakes, the spellbinding voice of Kate Campbell, the atmospheric Iguanas and some leftfield rock'n'roll from Slithering Beast. Merry Christmas/Solstice/whatever and a Happy New Year!
Yes, it's that time of the month again when your listening pleasure can be enhanced by heading off to the AUK Myspace site where you will find folk whimsy from The Travelling Band, poignant thoughfulness from Waylon Jennings, The Butless Chaps (don't you just want to know what they sound like?) and the sweetly swinging (and singing) Tish Hinojosa.
New tracks are up on the website for your listening pleasure. We have the hopefully appropriately titled “Sunshine” from Grantura, a track from the new Catie Curtis album, 166 seconds of cosmic pop from Daniel Wylie and, lest you think we’ve gone all soppy on you, “Head Full Of War from Jackie Leven.
Don’t forget The Electric Dustbowl at the Musician in Leicester on 20 September: £8 in advance buys you Peter Bruntnell, the Redlands Palomino Company, Thomas Denver Jonsson, The Havenots and Jim Jones. Gig of the year!
