Sounds Like
The greasiest thickest gumbo you ever layed your ears on. Oh yeah!
In the fall of 2005, a goal was set by Franco Gonzalez and Rich Ferris to form an original funk band with no particular spotlights on specific members or instruments. Since music is always at its best when multiple instruments blend into one combined musical machine, Franco and Rich didn’t see the need for “hired guns” to feature in their performances and recordings. Instead the two decided to begin their search for musicians who were dedicated not to being on the cover of magazines, but to the preservation of tasty groove oriented funk. After teaming up with auxiliary percussionist, Ryan Shultzaberger, the band spent the next year with a number of different drummers until finding Curtis Cirillo to fill the pocket. The band then gigged as one of the best rhythm sections in the Bay Area, collaborating with horn sections and singers along the way. After realizing that their music was lacking an important element to funk, Bulk introduced keyboardist Craig Schneider to round out what has become one of the best sounding groups since those of the original East Bay funk era of the 1970s. With main influences like The Meters and James Brown, Bulk is staying true to the sound and style of old school funk and they always serve it up with a side of grease.
