CALLmeKAT
kat is me.
so callmekat is me and my keyboards, laptop, vinyl birds and other stuff. sometimes more. sometimes less. sometimes it's hushed. sometimes loud. sometimes a couple of keyboards and sometimes many! it's always about the music. and i hope you enjoy what you hear.
sometimes i'm joined by lovely guests. when i'm that lucky they usually are: daniel fridell (keys/machines) & carsten skov (vibraphone) & sisse hyllested (bass). and they're fantastic! see you out there.
FALL DOWN
my first full-length album, recorded with friend and keyboard wiz Daniel Fridell in his studio in copenhagen. it's called 'fall down'.
it was recorded over quite a bit of time, while falling in love with sounds from beautiful keyboards, ugly keyboards, old bass guitars and drums and whatever else was sitting around the room and in the computer. sometimes a sound wasn't any of those places. then we'd create it. that's more fun anyway. there's a beat made of a noisy chair and pixie noises that are really just the sound of an old very blue organ, artificial mice dancing on the table and playing percussion or other instruments in their own subtle way, and much much more. Valgeir Sigurdsson took care of the mastering. enjoy!
THE EP
in june 2008 my EP 'i'm in a polaroid - where are you?' was released. making that i took my laptop, pushed the on-button in garageband and made noise. i started recording it in the fall 2007 in new york city and north of it in the beautiful catskill mountains, where i was recording on my own in this abandoned barn. i also met some fantastic birds. they were vinyl birds and i put them on the ep. as vinyl as they are they were really singing into with the music and they are the true stars of the ep. when not in the mountains i worked on the music in my living space or while touring.afterwards i was lucky to have Valgeir Sigurdsson mixing it in iceland. you can get this one on vinyl too.
ETC
besides my own recording projects and touring around opening for acts such as Au Revoir Simone, Mugison, The Dø, Sebastien Tellier, Nouvelle Vague and other lovely soundmakers - i've been contributing to a bunch of other people's projects as well. i was on Nouvelle Vague producer Marc Collin's album 'Two for the Road', plus another of his albums: 'Hollywood Mon Amour' along with some great people: Skye, Yael Naïm, Juliette Lewis and others. another release with a lot of lovely artists (Bat For Lashes, Blonde Redhead, The Dandy Warhols, etc.) was the tribute album to The Cure called 'Perfect As Cats - A Tribute To The Cure'. that one was released by Manimal Vinyl (US) in the fall of 2008. in the beginning of 2009 some music from the ep was used as runway soundtrack for brazilian designer Huis Clos at Sao Paulo fashion week. some of that music also ended up in the Brazilian benefit documentary 'Top Models - um conto de fadas brasileiro'. lately my version of 'toxic' was put on the Stella Polaris compilation 'a handful'. so i guess you can stumble upon me in different places!
x kat

THE DANISH PRESS ABOUT 'FALL DOWN':
(translated)
dr.dk: **** (4/6)
"Take Fiona Apple's attitude, Stina Nordenstam's fragility and some of the semi-electronic melancholy that defines CocoRosie, then add Katrine Ottosen's own addictive magic spice – and you'll have CALLmeKAT…"
Gaffa: **** (4/6)
"The sound moves convincingly between scratchy and refined, with Ottosen's expressive vocals as achor"
Soundvenue: **** (4/6)
"CALLmeKATs vocal steals the show from ‘Fall Down’s’ first crackling breath till its last.”
Politiken: **** (4/6)

Berlingske Tidende: **** (4/6)
"...Fall Down definitely is among the danish debut albums of the year".
Citadel: **** (4/6)

Alt for damerne: ***** (5/6)
" A whole new special star has been born with Kat – or Katrine Ottosen, who sound like both a purring, mysterious and playful specimen of the race on the debut album 'Fall Down'… Sure we'll be hearing a lot more of her"
KBH: ***** (5/6)
"The atmosphere is full of mystery and intensity - and it is alluring. (...) Top it up with daring tracks such as the cover versions of 'Toxic' and 'Lovecats' and a debut album just doesn't get much better than this"

It was an honour for me! On my way home I listened to your album, and I absolutely love it. But I equally loved listening to just you and your unique synth sounds!
