    Singer-songwriter Scott Yoshimura is a musical jack-of-all-trades. While he is the drummer for another band, The Envy Corps, calling Canby a side-project is being disingenuous. In Canby, Yoshimura pens the songs, plays the guitar, records the drums, and sings the songs. His heart is completely into his music. The baritone smoothness of Yoshimura's vocals add serious weight to the themes he paints with his music; be it pensive hopefulness on tracks like ”Reassurance” or introverted frustration showcased in the title track of “Rat.”.... Itʼs obvious that Canby is influenced by a multitude of different genres and the outcome is songs with pop sensibilities that have no issues with adding dramatic rock buildup or a tension-laced indie-rock guitar riff into the middle of what would have otherwise been a straight-up pop song. Yoshimuraʼs work under the Canby name is, in a word, beautiful. Itʼs earnest. Itʼs endearing. It becomes obvious that he loves making music, especially this music thatʼs so close to his heart. ............ .. .. .. .. .. .. .. ......
