So what exactly is "I Am A Movement"?

At first glance you see the name and probably assume it is some sort of cult, or some group trying to change the world and peoples' beliefs. Although that may not be entirely off, if you ask these four kids from Buffalo, NY, they will tell you it's about having fun, and living your life-- doing the things that make you happy.
I Am A Movement started off with two Buffalo natives, Derrik Schiersing (vocals and guitar), and Adam Czosek (Bass/keys). Although this is a new project, these two young men are no strangers to the music scene having played in a local band called "This is Fiction" for the past three years.
"I think in all honesty, This is Fiction was a huge part of us and played such a big part in our lives, but at the same time we use that as a stepping stone," said Derrik. "It was a stage in our lives that we loved, but at the same time it was a learning process. We feel we worked out most of the kinks at this stage of our lives and wanted a new and fresh project to go along with the lessons we've learned."
It did not take long for everything to catch on, the group quickly went into the studio and recorded their first release called "The Secrets We Kept", which will be released on iTunes this August. A 4 track ep filled with ideas the band had slowly been working on the months away from playing shows. An extra 4 tracks will be available for the first time as a b sides album. "Basically the four b sides were tracks that we recorded prior to recording "Secrets", we were still trying to find our sound at that time, and experimented with a few different things and in the end we did not want the songs to go to waste, so we figured why not release them" Derrik says. Fresh out of the studio the band needed a final lineup, two more members to make everything complete. Thats where two young men by the name of Nick Kaiser, and Mike Wirth come into play. Both guys playing in and out of local bands for years, Nick already played with Derrik in a band prior. "We had our first practice and everything went great, we all get along great and its extremely fun, we can only go up from here".

Why "I Am A Movement"?

"We tried so hard to come up with a band name that meant something to us, that slso would have a positive message behind it. We have lived a quarter of our lives already and it's absolutely crazy to think that way. Life flies by, and it does not slow down. So we want to take the time to remind people to stop for a second and to enjoy themselves. We are only young once. And although you grow old, that does not mean you have to stop having fun. You live once, make the best of it."
No, the band does not plan on creating a worldwide "Movement". But if they can affect others through their music then it will be a mission accomplished.
"We want to have fun, we want to enjoy our youth. We also want to write music that people can relate to," said Adam.
So sit back, relax and watch these four young men blossom into not just friends, but a band as well. A band on the rise, a band who is ready to sing to you, a band who is ready to start a "Movement".
