“My life experiences don’t particularly startle or shock anyone, but I don’t think they need to in order to be validated as a songwriter. She thanks her high school music teacher for taking the time to notice the passion. “Scott taught me how to sing an Italian aria in 2 days before university auditions! He knew classical training was what my young voice needed and it wasjust so strange to see my real voice developing while I trained it to sing so differently for 3 whole years.” She completed a bachelor of music majoring in vocal performance and classical training gave her voice its much needed grounding and sustainability.

Making it to the top 50 in the 2004 Australian Idol was quite an eye opener for Jess and in 2005 she was thrilled to be flown to Adelaide to compete as part of the top five in the Glen Shorrock Music Awards. “Both experiences were quite a motivation booster for getting stuck into song writing and experimenting with my voice. I also found meetings with Danielle Gaha, Glen Shorrock and Brian Cadd to be pivotal moments. Their insightful compliments about my voice and its quality gave me genuine confidence in my ability; not only as a singer but as a performer and a song writer.” The support and sponsorship of the world-wide surf label RipCurl has certainly also been a driving force behind Jess’ excitement and tenacity in attempting to enter such a competitive industry.
Jess Lee found song writing at 18. Her insightful ballad “Not Quite Enough”was one of her first experiences in the studio with the producer Reggie Bowman and illustrates the depths and range in her voice. Her vocal range is explored in “I Let Go” as the song’s melody soars in the chorus’ words “taking all my thoughts of you, I let go”. Its evident here that her song concepts and words help her process the struggle to accept God’s right timing for things in life."Anyday Now" is one of her most recent compositions, moving into new areas as she plays an instrument she has only just started learning and tries different tones in her voice.
She is constantly challenged by the desire to write in a style that fits her voice like a glove. “Jewel has nailed this desire when she said ‘my voice is the teacher that instructs me and itself –and, about me. I am constantly learning how restraint and control can unlock its depths’. I love that honesty, ringing true with the things i have learnt from Lauryn Hill as well. Somedays your voice is crap for no reason, and others it soars! Everyday is exciting in an ironic sense, for I don’t really know where my voice is taking me. I want to write songs that have hope sewn into their lining, embedded so deep in my words, that anyone listening could not escape feeling aspiration of a redemptive nature.”
Hi Jess!! Thanks so much for the request!! Love your voic, sounds very nice and sweet!! Great songs as well!! Happy to have you on board. I hope you get a chance to listen to my songs, I'd love to hear what you think!!! Thanks, Darren.
Hey ? lol.. i don't know whether to call you jess or miss fuhrmeister? haha um just wondering if your ep has come out yet? i thought you said something about November? Thanks heaps for "The Battlefield of the Mind" book. I've just started reading it and it seems really good. How have you been?
Heyy Miss Fuhmeister, oh my goodness! i just watched "The Everything Skit" and i just could not fight back the tears. The way Jesus never gives up on the girl and fights off the sin and evil when she is trying to get back and how the crowd starts cheering when she is trying to reach Jesus again. I have been shivering the last 15 minutes. I showed my sister and she is the same. It has such a powerful message..it just shows how truly AMAZING God is. Thanks heaps for telling me about it
x katey p.s. How did the Shannon Noll performance go?
Hey Jess, New songs sound great.....is that Jimi's handywork?? Hope things are going well. Jodes and i leave here in 4 days and head off on our homeward journey through Europe. Get back home early December and pretty much jump straight into a studio....obviously after rectifying the lack of tan!!!
