Kelly "KAMA" Alexander.
She is your neighbour, your best friend, the person sitting next to you on the bus, the stranger who smiled at you this morning on the street. Passion and an unbelievable personality make this everyday girl special.
KAMA began singing in the church choir at age three, under the direction of her Grandmother. She sang in school plays and everywhere else until meeting Aztec recording artist, Ian E*N*C Campbell. In 1996, she lent her voice to one of his tracks. Campell then played one of KAMA's tracks for Aztec. She recorded "Listen To Me," "Live Your Life," and "Hard To Come By," shortly after. In 1999, "Hard To Come By," charted nationally in the top ten, on MC Mario's Mixdown.
With a degree from Ryerson University in 2000, KAMA set off to radio. She's currently on five stations in Montreal and has engineered and produced CD's for five different artists. Listen for her on
CHOM 977 ,
MIX 96 ,
CJAD and
K103.7FM
A new EP is in the works. KAMA's influences range from credits to the wide variety of artists she listens to, from her role model, Janet Jackson, to Crystal Waters, CeCe Peniston, Queen Latifah, George Michael, Mary J. Blige, Jill Scott, and many others.
