“Every since day one, my skills been ‘A one’” Lil’Roy recalled recently saying on his upcoming project “Gotta Be the Best”. Lil’Roy on the mic is a 16 year old rapper that has been rapping since the age of 11. After listening to his first recording project “Get It In”, many took him as a joke. The high level of negative criticism led to him taking a hiatus from the rap game before he even started. While on break he worked on the basic fundamentals of rapping. He would go on to returned with his 2 verses on T-Pain and 2 Pistol’s “She Got It”. It was this freestyle record that got him some attention from his soon to be listeners. Through experiencing this initial criticism he realized that in the rap game there are 3 kinds of people; supporters, haters, and the undecided critics. Realizing that he needed to let the people know who exactly Lil’Roy was, he decided to work on a mixtape called “Da Live Freestyle Pt.1”. He started recording in the comfort of his basement in his spare time. It was there that he prepared his first mixtape with little reliance on others. His hard work didn’t pay off the way he predicted but the negative criticism only motivated him to be better. Slightly trying to merge into the rap game Lil’Roy promoted his music page heavily on the internet. Anyone close to Lil’Roy would tell you that he is hard-working, dedicated, determine and inspired to be great. On his path to become a prominent underground artist hoping to get signed, he collaborated with many unsigned artists such as Faze, Floet, Yung Leo and most consistently Da Real Deal. Some of his hit songs include “Love Sick” Ft. Da Real Deal and Jason Derulo. “That track was fire man I had the beat for a year and I never really thought that people would have received it the way they did, but one day I was heading Down South and decide to work on it since I was stuck on a boring coach bus with ma friends. Then I let Da Real Deal hear it. He was like “man this is nice why you ain’t let me hop on this?” Lil’Roy explained about how the track came about. It took him about 5 years to finally get recognized for his creativity. “Man I was so hype, it was like it about damn time these dudes dig my track.” Fueling off the hype of his first hit single Lil’Roy was determine to live up to the hype with “The Next Best Rapper” mixtape. It received moderate reviews and criticism from those that downloaded and or had previously heard the songs on his Myspace Music Page. Lil’Roy finally began to feeling like a rapper. He continued working on improving his music and expanding his fan base. But there have been a few misconception; though most tracks have freestyle at the end of the name, Lil’Roy have never really got on the beat and completely freestyle his verse. He decided to take that step, freestyling over 20 industry beats and on about 5 original songs. His continued hard work and determination paid off, by far “Da Live Freestyle Pt.2” mixtape was his best piece of work. “Yo that ish was live I couldn’t believe that freestyling on tracks would have been such a success. Of course I ain’t freestyle right off the back, I recorded stop, think and just kept going. But as you got to the end of the mixtape you saw the improvement. Thank yall for just believing and motivating me with your negativity.” “Expect greatness from me when you hear my tracks” Lil’Roy told a friend in the room. Only to get the response “Indeed I think you can really be a force to reckon with, you just need to keep working hard and keep being fueled by negativity”
