A huge congratulations are in order for Have Heart and their album Songs To Scream At The Sun debuting number #193 on the Top 200. Music industry people will probably not be too impressed with this as 2/3 of the sales were direct and non-traditional sales and by far the most immediate pre-order reaction we've had in Bridge Nine history. And when the album came out, our sales didn't drop off because why? Stores weren't taking this album as seriously as they should've. So in today's market, it's pretty gratifying to be able to fill the void that skeptical chains and record stores don't fill.
By offering the download with the album was something our distributor found intriguing to see the reaction. People were freaking out over it. While they weren't thrilled about it, they weren't all that bummed about it because in this day and age, the old model of holding your cards until release date is giving people an album for free for months while stores and bands and labels have to sit patiently when everyone is getting the album for free. The Hold Steady was recently strong-armed into releasing their album early on Itunes and putting out a deluxe edition of their new album on release date. We were stoked to control our fate and control the leak date and thanks to everyone at Caroline Distribution who at least let us get away with it and not punishing us for doing so.
While the vinyl itself was delayed (it's shipping-got pics to prove it), the CDs are all out in the world and we hope you're enjoying them. Soundscans are great measures of how records are selling-but it's not the be all end all of music and it's nice to crash a party that you weren't invited to from time to time
interesting article. let me know if you want the whole thing.
Clinton was President for 8 years, gas prices went from $1.10 to $1.50 (thats a 36% increase) In Bush's 7.5 years, he's caused gas to go from $1.50 to $4.05 and he's not done yet! (thats a 175% increase) Who says Republicans can't git -r- dun! Bring 'em on! Lets roll!
Two former Texas oil company executives hold the most powerful positions in government in the 'free' world. Gas prices go through the roof.... coincidence?
We did not arrive at the doorstep of our current economic crisis by some accident of history. This was not an inevitable part of the business cycle that was beyond our power to avoid. It was the logical conclusion of a tired and misguided philosophy that has dominated Washington for far too long.
George Bush called it the Ownership Society, but it’s little more than a worn dogma that says we should give more to those at the top and hope that their good fortune trickles down to the hardworking many. For eight long years, our President sacrificed investments in health care, and education, and energy, and infrastructure on the altar of tax breaks for big corporations and wealthy CEOs – trillions of dollars in giveaways that proved neither compassionate nor conservative.
And for all of George Bush’s professed faith in free markets, the markets have hardly been free – not when the gates of Washington are thrown open to high-priced lobbyists who rig the rules of the road and riddle our tax code with special interest favors and corporate loopholes. As a result of such special-interest driven policies and lax regulation, we haven’t seen prosperity trickling down to Main Street. Instead, a housing crisis that could leave up to two million homeowners facing foreclosure has shaken confidence in the entire economy.
i didn't have my big memory stick for my camera, so this is one of the only videos i got. i'll try to get better ones on monday. but it's not THAT bad, at least this song isn't.
