This Passing Moment is a three-piece rock band hailing from Salt Lake City, Utah. They formed in the spring of 2006 and in a short period of time have created an intense, yet very intimate sound. With Rick Sproul’s rich baritone vocals and stylish guitar playing at the fore, their sound is reminiscent of artists ranging from Peter Murphy and the Cure to Nirvana to Interpol, yet with a style and originality all their own.
Rick met drummer Jay Christensen in 1993 when their previous bands were playing the same venues in Salt Lake City. After their respective projects fell apart in 1998, they formed Zambu Fly, which enjoyed moderate success over the next five years playing at SLC venues that have all sadly disappeared (R.I.P. Zephyr Club). In 2003, Zambu Fly joined the Zephyr Club in death. However, Rick and Jay stayed in touch, and by 2006 both were ready to give it another go. They recruited bass player Shawn Jacobs from the band Go Figure (with whom Jay also played) and the band was born. This Passing Moment is recording its debut album during the spring and summer of 2009, with a release date scheduled for fall 2009.
