In 2007, Thomas Jonsson released his third album THE LAKE ACTS LIKE AN OCEAN as the indie/folk-alias Thomas Denver Jonsson. Compared to his earlier outtings, he once and for all took a big step away from the conventional singersonwriter/alt.country-genre and started to do something more diverse, subtle and contemporary. The album spans from solo instrumentals, dark acoustic folk, band oriented indie rock and soulful Americana.
His dense but witty expression is starting to reach out to a wider audience. When the album hit Europe in April 2008 it got really good reviews, especially in UK, and he has been compared to artists such as M Ward, Cat Power, Neil Young, The National and My Morning Jacket. The Word put him on their covermounted cd and The Times mentioned him as one of six acts of importance for the Swedish pop scene. (Together with Cardigans, Robyn, The Hives, Concretes and Peter, Bjorn and John).
He has just returned after more than a month on tour in UK/Netherlands/Sweden/Norway and has now begun the studio work of his followup album, scheduled for a 2009 release. Thomas has been touring extensively last couple of years with hundreds of shows in big parts of Europe plus a stop at the SXSW Festival in Austin. Last years' tours has been exclusively solo and his performing style has progressed into an intense and introspective experience which has taken him to jazz-, folk- and rock clubs all over as well as radio and tv sessions. The songs from the upcoming album has also been highly represented on the last year's tours. Except from The Lake Acts Like an Ocean thomas has also released the debut Hope to Her (2003) and Barely Touching it (2005). The albums features guest appearances from artists such as Damien Jurado, Rosie Thomas, Ned Oldham, Nina Kinert, Jennie Stearns and Ellinor
Blixt. Thomas is also active in the side projects Going Places (7" Label), A Perfect Friend (Experimental Folk) and The Topeka Twins.
