This is Lotus Dickey. (Dec. 28, 1911 - Nov. 23, 1989). He is a folk legend. This man is one of the very best folk artists of our time. Those in the folk movement know this man as well as any rocker knows the Rolling Stones! He lived, eat and breathed music. He is also one of the most underappreciated songwriters, singers, and musicians of our time. He hails from my little hometown, of Paoli, Indiana. Soon I will have a song on this site that was inspired and written, in tribute, to this legend. The song, "The Ghost of Grease Gravy Hill".
Lotus didn't have a Myspace dedicated to him. Why, I don't know. So, I wanted to do this for him and try to let as many people know who this great man was and what he meant to so many.
When I was a small boy, my mother and aunt Debbie would play me records. Johnny Cash, Willie, Waylon, Kris Kristofferson and Merle Haggard. Creedence Clearwater, Tommy James & the Shondells and Gram Parsons just to name a few. By the time I was 10, I had a record collection that any teenager would have been proud to own. That was in the days of "45's", "LP's" and 8 track tapes.
In the 80's I took to the "British Invasion" (The second wave, that is), and took up playing music and writing songs. Poetry was always a part of my life, so it wasn't much of a stretch. When I got married I sold off all my "music stuff" & got serious about making a living. But, the bug of musicmaking never leaves you alone long.
A few years ago, I got back into making music. I started getting offers, many of which I ended up turning down. Probably shouldn't have. These days I am seriously considering putting a band together or moving my family & I to Tennessee to make some go of it. I am presently writing with a few "better knowns". I do collaborate on songs but, I prefer to work alone.
Just about everything you will hear on this profile is in demo form. Even in demo form, these songs have drawn alot of attention. I continue to write regularly about things that touch my nerves.....and my heart.

Hi Thom. Yes, the countryside and scenery have been truly aspiring. We've had up to 8 inches of snow here so I took myself off to the woodland for a slippery stroll! I even saw deer which was fab! How about yourself? Any snow where you are? x

Happy Hump Day! I hope your week is going well. This is my last night in Cabo. The weather has been mainly overcast the whole week, so I didn't get much of a tan. The food leaves a lot to be desired-LOL! I am looking forward to going home, but I hear we got snow in NY, so I am not too happy about returning to that. I have to be up at 4:15 a.m. tomorrow, so I am going to get to bed soon. Sweet dreams. :-)))
