| About Thom Brennan |
Inspired by the landscapes he grew up with along the Pacific coast, Thom Brennans' self produced albums have defined a unique and organic style of sound-painting...a colorful and private world of harmonic tapestries.
While inspired by landscapes, he was influenced by both film makers and early electronic musicians. Lasting impressions in particular came from the extended microtonal works of Lamont Young, organ and tape echo improvisations by Terry Riley, and the hypnotic mantras of German progressive band Popol Vuh. Later influences run the gamut of eastern drones to Seattle grunge. All of this culminates into a neo-classical ambient impressionism built around shifting, layered textures and hypnotic patterns of melody.
In addition to an ongoing series of solo works, collaborations with ambient composer Steve Roach appeared on the Fortuna Records release "Western Spaces"; and with Vidna Obmana on the Project Records "Amplexus Collective".
Today Thom resides near Seattle, producing soundgardens from his home studio dubbed the Raingarden, in honor of the ancient forests nearby - the "Moss Cathedrals" - that inspire him.
Recordings have appeared on Rubicon Records (Canada), Phonogram (France), Amplexus / Arya (Italy), IC records (Germany), Space For Music, Atmoworks, Fortuna and his own Raingarden Music.
