Thor Leif Grünewald was gebore in 1950(desember,23) in die Paarl dorp (pêrel in engels) in die antiek Suid-Afrikaner Unie, nou Republiek van Suid-Afrika. Sedert tien jaar oud was hom geintresseerd in kitare, en met vyftien jare van ouderdom het begin uitvoerend professioneel. Hy is gradueer in sports medisyne by die Universiteit van Kalifornië(UCLA), en gewerk vir meer as dertig jare as fotograaf van wetenskaplik eksperimente en huwelike. Deesdae, een toewy eksklusief tot die kitaarspeler beroep. Hy is ook bekend as Catfinger.
