Long Legged Woman- "Something is Pressing Against It from the Inside" b/w "Scalpels in the Sky" 7" vinyl
"Something is Pressing" marks the official introduction of the four-man Long Legged Woman. A lot has changed in just two years with the band recording everything from swampy blooze-rock and tape collage-noise to ghostly psych-folk. And now the band has moved from its home in Athens, Georgia to San Francisco. The A-side is almost like something out of the early SST Records catalog, a mid-tempo trash-punk anthem with a busted-teeth smile. The psych-pop dirge on the B-side was originally released on a CDr already out of print, and for all intents and purposes, is the prettiest song Long Legged Woman's ever written. Live photo collage by Alex Cargile. Pressed on random-colored marble vinyl.
Edition of 300.
+ ... [A-side] like Eat Skull covering 'Sedan Delivery' inside a Robotussin humidor. Side B has a remarkable Xpressway like quality to it's aura. Could be outtakes for either Jefferies brother 7" or a distant demo from an early incarnation of Plagal Grind. - Siltblog
+ ... [A-side] heat-weary psych-rock emerging from a bouncy Pitchblende post-rock ... [B-side] something akin to Syd Barrett as approached by Hush Arbors... - Animal Psi

Totally Dad- New Black Draughms CDr
Some seriously blown-out blues, deranged scuzz-rock and destroyed improv from Brooklyn’s Totally Dad. Listening to New Black Draughms' sewage-clogged rawk, you get the impression that an instrument is beaten senseless every time a song ends, and by the close of the album, there's just nothing left. CDr housed in an oversize white envelope.
Edition of 100.

Chartreuse- No More Paths to Sounder Sleep CS
We can't wait. No More Paths will come out on a real-deal CD this summer, but so many people have e-mailed that TRHP’s gonna go ahead and offer 15 of the 50 copies that Drew Smith (Chartreuse) himself dubbed onto cassette. (Note: This is the unmastered version, but there's a great gritty and muddled quality that makes it distinct from the final product.) Organ drones seep through the earth as if heard by a tape recorder buried underground. Guitar melodies are weighed down by the murky and melancholic bliss of strings and loops swarming the headphones. No More Paths to Sounder Sleep is a trance-inducing soundtrack to the end of the night.
Edition of 50 (We only have 15!)

nicolasTone- I'M TONE DEAF (musicpourlessourds) 3" CDr
Electro-acoustic French musician Nicolas Laferrerie offers one of his most obliterating pieces yet on I’M TONE DEAF. While split into ten tracks, it's a fully-realized 20-minute work that pulses heavy electronic beats alongside manipulated audio and cut-up fire-jazz sax squawks and battling "war drums." Lafarrerie intersperses bouts of terrifying noise with ambient clicks and whirrs as if preparing for the next onslaught. 3" CDr comes housed in a long, gray gatefold envelope tied with string.
Edition of 100.
+ ... [blends] various forms of extreme jazz/noise/metal in such a way that at times it sounds like three or four different albums being played simultaneously in some parking garage by a group of teenage pranksters, and with great precision I might add. - Foxy Digitalis

The Green Knight- The Eternal OM CS
Bong-hit noise scrapple from Jeff Rahuba (Long Legged Woman) and Doug Patterson (Better People). Abrasive tape manipulations fall down the stairs in paranoid murmurs. A longing for times past when majik and pagan rites were employed in direct communion with the forces of nature. This is folk music, a lament. First cassette for Thor's Rubber Hammer!

better people- salvia inside the broken home CDr EP
The liners to the latest better people EP recommend the following: "Get stoned and listen to this with you[r] headphones on... and turn it up loud." Yes, yes -- heavy tape loops, gurgling rhythms, piercing drones and the sound of a thousand orcs on the attack. BUT also a steadied, patient study in noise dynamics and one more reason why Athens, GA's Doug Patterson demands to be noticed. B&W artwork on heavy cardstock by the artist.
Edition of 100.
+ [One absorbs] a vast amount of mystery, unease, and at the same time -- possibly, despite the fullness of the noise and underlying ambient tones -- a certain hollowness that seems to coincide with the title. - EXP/AM

Long Legged Woman- Newtown Nights CDr
On its last album as a duo, LLW scales back the overwhelming psychedelic noise-rock and tape collage for a more intimate recording. Newtown Nights is an acid-folk album washed in deathly earth tones, dark and haunting bleak basement tapes sung by ghosts. B&W stickers on arigato pak with a black CDr and insert.
+ Is it psychedelic pop? Bedroom shoegaze? Kinda like a softer-edged Sic Alps, or maybe a two-man Spectre Folk. - Blastitude

S.F.C.D.- How Saint Francis Tamed the Very Fierce Wolf of Gubbio CDr
In a 40-minute single track, Gubbio attempts to balance the rigid, composed nature of metal and the fun, free expression of improv. Its three somewhat distinct sections move through raging Fushitsusha guitar feedback, meditative and metallic drone destroyed by battle drums, and a skewed blues reprieve. Black ink on red vellum cover with a black CDr on black heavy cardstock.
+ Collins aptly tears at his fretboard with abandon and lets his disjointed chords smolder into oblivion. -Foxy Digitalis

Sweet Teeth- From the Fourth Hand of the Buddha the Lotus Was Born for the Seventh Time CDr
Sweet Teeth combines both the sounds and members of Dark Meat and Long Legged Woman -- clusterpsych classic-rock tendencies paired with hypnotic avant-rock. From the Fourth Hand's lone track, "Morning Raga," is a tribal drum-heavy affair recorded live at the 40 Watt in Athens, GA by the capable hands and ears of Asa Leffer. The monochordal frame has the band expanding the third eye in the crosshairs of Spacemen 3, Acid Mothers Temple and Pharoah Sanders. Artwork by Ben Clack and righteous llama photo by Page Campbell. Pro-printed CDrs in a resealable polybag.
+ ...a melange of Native American drum pulse, some bubbling crude synth electronics, fairly searing shoegaze guitar, and soaring androgynous/wordless vocals... - Blastitude
+ ...it's kind of like a night of genre-busting improv at a sweaty roadhouse. -Flagpole

New and obscure cuts ranging from psych-rock/folk and free-jazz to ambient and noise. Owl Xounds- Stoned and Zoned 2x3"CDr
One of NYC's most aggressive fire-jazz units, Owl Xounds, continues to link ESP'Disk and the Misfits, but here also approaches beautiful noise on two 20+ minute pieces. Mainstays Adam Kriney (drums) and Gene Janas (upright bass) are augmented by Bonnie Kane on amplified flute and sax with electronics. Kane's contributions bring the unit to its most psychedelic paramount, her feedback-sax worshipping at the gates of guitar gods like Les Rallizes Denudes and Blue Cheer, yet affectionately rooted in Ayler. Kriney (La Otracina, Rust Ionics, Castanets) moves the action forward, ravaging without destroying, and Janas (Screamin' Jay Hawkins, Bern Nix's Sedition Ensemble) practically rips the strings off his bass, yet both know when to let textures form on their own. Packaged in mini-LP plastic sleeve with insert and spray-painted stencil work by Lars Gotrich.

Chartreuse- Summit 3" CDr
Multiple waves of electric guitar worshiping the sunrise, reflective organ drones on codeine, and graceful textures that muddle the area between ambience and melody. Artwork by Chartreuse himself, Drew Smith.

Long Legged Woman- The End of False Religion CDr
Something totally different for the soulful blues-skuzz guitar/drum 'n tapes duo. Two sick drones: one for solo tape, the other for guitar and bass that sounds like Keiji Haino had an overbloated, allergic reaction to a boombox dub. 40 minutes. Artwork lifted from an old, tattered Emily Brontë dust-jacket slipped into a 5x6 plastic sleeve.
+ ... hit[s] on a sound all their own and it is indeed a surprisingly great, fresh, organic sound. Fully recommended. -Outer Space Gamelan
+ An endless rain of suffocating feedback and heavily treated loops... 7/10 - Foxy Digitalis.

Various Artists- Deeded to Itself: Athens Southernoise CDr
Just before I left Athens for the nation's capital, I noticed a diverse and burgeoning noise scene outside the Elephant 6 weirdies that was unorganized and unnoticed. Deeded to Itself is an attempt to document the bloody grit and kudzu-scuzz from or around Athens, Georgia with hopes of expansion and inspiration. Exclusive material from Altruizine, Telenovela, Chartreuse, Garbage Island, Long Legged Woman, Orthopedics, Killick, better people and Sailor Winters. Book-like jacket with altered public domain artwork.
+ Call this music wanky, off-putting or perverse, but also recognize each song as a force that subsumes its performer's individual voice with an annihilating field of jammed signals - noise - and discovers liberation in this blood sacrifice. With over-earnest, self-mythologizing singer-songwriters and ego-tripping, consumptive rappers failing us right and left, maybe it's time to get with the "I"-abolishing program in whose favor these nine artists rally. -Flagpole

Mad Onion Burger- Talking Anus Cowboy 3" CDr
This is what happens when college DJs are given free reign on the airwaves... Recorded live late one night in May 2004. 3" CDr release with 25 different found photos of the 37th President, Richard M. Nixon, and the First Lady on reused brown paper bags. Features John Fernandes (Olivia Tremor Control, Circulatory System) for a total of 5 seconds.
