........ ........ ..It all started out with a cookie jar..... .. Shortly thereafter Gypsy, Doum and Gee had the perfect band name. The three of them have been playing together under the mantle Those Damn Kookies since 2007. Gypsy and Gee’s musical collaboration goes back to the days before TDK, both members being part of another Montreal-based band. After a while, they decided to give it their all and start their own rock band. It quickly became apparent that they would need a bass player. Enter Doum. If he was good enough to play in a metal cover band, he would be good enough to play with Gee and Gypsy. It was a natural choice. After all, Doum and Gee bumped into each other a lot as kids, sometimes literally. Having the same parents will do that... .. Gypsy, Doum and Gee have been through a lot since the creation of TDK: from shows in Montreal, New York City and Toronto, to recording a full album that was only supposed to be a four-song EP. Traffic Noise was released in early 2009. Gypsy, lead vocals and guitar, is the main song writer for TDK. He usually comes up with the lyrics, while Doum and Gee help fill in the blanks. His favourite memory is their gig at North by Northeast in Toronto. He also affirms that TDK started out as a boy band, but proof supporting his claim has mysteriously disappeared. Doum, bass, is the middle man. That’s kind of a figure of speech, since he’s the tall one. As Doum puts it himself, “One says yes, the other says no. I’m right in the middle. Right there.” Another figure of speech, because you’ll usually find him on the right side of the stage. He also apparently makes a mean ham and cheese sandwich. Gee, drums, is the go-to guy for dealing with contracts and booking gigs, “I know people who know people.” The oldest member of the group, Gee also has quite a few other useful talents, including finding whatever the band needs at that moment. Those Damn Kookies continues playing in Montreal and surrounding areas, and will be touring through Canada and Europe in 2010.
