Ben Gwilliam (b. 1980) is a sound artist active in the fields of sound installation, curation, improvising new music and performance. He describes his practice as drawing attention to those sounds between things, be it objects, spaces or recordings. It is these sounds and their contexts that reveal visual and musical processes of listening and looking. It is from this curiosity about sound-making/recording/finding and how abstract/descriptive that sounds can be, that he makes parallels and similarities unpicking the relationship between those uncovered sounds and moments of primary experience. In 2004 he was awarded an AHRB Postgraduate Award. In 2007 he was nominated for the Jerwood Artist platform Prize. He has worked and shown internationally in Exhibitions, Residencies and Festivals including ‘art@radio’, 2002 USA, Artoll Labor, 2002 DE, ‘Hothouse’ 2003 Liverpool, Hull Time Based Arts, 2003 UK, ‘ineditos 2004’, Madrid & Barcelona, ‘stance’, 2005 market gallery, Glasgow, and ‘Unsilently’, 2005 CAC, North Adams, USA, ‘Sonic Arts Expo 2006’, Manchester, UK, ‘Klang-Labor 06’, DE. His work has been featured on Resonance FM, and has work in several CD and Publication Releases. Intricate and atmospheric songsmith, Danny Saul (UK) performs with different combinations of musicians, making each gig a unique event. His forthcoming release is "Harsh, Final", and he also performs with Greg Haines as Liondialer.
Fieldhead (UK) music delights in tape hiss, bleak landscapes and decaying analogue loops. He is also a member of The Declining Winter and Glissando. His debut album, "They Shook Hands for Hours" is released soon on Home Assembly.

zu gast bei bander bender in oktober, der britischer klangkünstler ben gwilliam, der sich auch hauptsächlich dem experimentieren mit tonbändern gewidmet hat. ben arbeitet unter anderem mit grossen, alten "reel-to-reel" tonbandgeräten & beschäftigt sich improvisierend mit zufall, zerfall, stille & zunehmend auch mit den innewohnenden klängen von leeren bändern. die zwei spontankomponisten werden ihre individuellen klangwelten vorstellen in kürzeren solo-sets, gefolgt von einer spannenden duo-premiere.

wenn ich mit achim kämper musik mache, spielt sich das thema von der tv serie golden girls in meinem kopf ab, mit seiner recht eingängigen melodie, aber vor allem mit seinem schönem text. obwohl eine solche geistige gegenveranstaltung das gemeinsame improvisieren sicherlich erschweren kann, ist es aber doch eher ein sehr gutes zeichen, was dieses tape-dj's gemüt angeht. eine ehemalige freundin von mir hatte mir mal eine geschichte erzählt von einem nicht allzu hellen punker-bekannten, der gerade schwer begeistert eine band mit zwei schlagzeugern gesehen hatte & nur rauskriegte: "boah eh, es war der hammer...die haben chromosom gespielt." ich glaube von mir & achim, kann ich das zu recht behaupten; wir teilen auf jeden fall eine menge musikalisches erbmaterial. in echtzeit gebastelt wird unter anderem ambient tapeno, haunted house, oldskool kosmische musik & freethiopiques. & if you threw a party & invited every one you ever knew...
