There are some bands who make music to express their innermost creative desires. There are others who make music to get respect and fame, cash and hos, bling bling and all that. There are those who make music to display a political statement; living the revolution!
Then there are those, like Three Years Accident Free, who play music to jump around, skank like crazy, and just have a grand old time. "It's all about fun for me," says lead singer Alex Dancho. "There's nothing else I can do to rival the amount of excitement I get from rockin' out."
New to the scene as of early 2004, Three Years Accident Free (or TYAF for short) are a conglomerate of many different musical backgrounds: A lead guitarist who loves his happy music. A rhythm guitarist who's never quite coherent. A drummer born during a Zappa song and fed with Journey and Boston. A tenor player obsessed with odd time signatures. A classically trained alto saxophonist. A bass player who listens to more electronica and prog than the ska he plays. With their odd and diverse talents combined, they bring something new and unique to the world of ska.
Their debut EP, "Shortstacked", is an illustration of those diverse talents. The first track, "Sebulba," begins with a jamband-like groove in alternating measures of 7/8 and 4/4, giving way to the good vibes and exultant groove of "Fuego!" while nothing is quite as odd nor innovative as "Sebulba," the range of interests in TYAF shows in tracks such as "8-Bit Boy"; Alex's lyrical dedication to the old school video games of his youth. Fast-paced tracks such as "Change" and "Negated" bring a high level of energy to their repetoire. And of course, what ska band would be complete without a skank anthem? TYAF sure wouldn't be, and "Hobson's Choice" never fails to persuade an audience to form a circle and dance with their brothers and sisters. TYAF released the follow up to Shortstacked, "Trivial Pursuits," in the summer of 2004, and it was hailed by critics as one of the best albums to come out of the CT Ska scene in years.
While the band is relatively new, they've played shows with such acts as Tip the Van, Stealing From Peter, Fatter Than Albert, Bad Larry, SGR, Perfect Orange, Too Short Notice, High School Football Heroes, Tri-State Conspiracy, The Flaming Tsunamis, I Voted for Kodos, The Know How, and The Toasters, gaining a small following that grows larger by the day.

We've got some awesome news, and some not so awesome news. The awesome news is that we have a SHOW ON JUNE 12TH at the 1st Baptist Church in Westfield, NJ! It's gonna be an wonderous lineup.
The not so awesome news is that we're breaking up, and THIS IS THE LAST TIME EVER TO SEE THE MAFIA PLAY. After this, there will be no more Cats Pooping on Pillows, no more Michael J Fox attempting to play Nintendo Wii, and most of all, no more Nosebleeds.
And we're gonna divorce Awful Waffle LIVE on stage.
