independent films, special effects makeup, making horror movies-directing, photography, practical visual effects, etc.
performance and video art, painting, printmaking
all things creepy, kooky, mysterious and spooky, not to mention all together ooky
My interest in the horror genre (for artistic purposes) relates to the continuation of myth and storytelling, adolescent initiation rituals and puberty rites, gallows humor, social satire and the fear of our own bodies betraying us, but most of all I enjoy creating a beautiful, disgusting mess.

THROB, an independent sci-fi/horror/comedy, tells the story of a centuries-old entity that pulsates, mutates, infects and slimes its way into the teenagers of the city of Woodbury, USA. Christopher Kinerbasker, a geeky high school student pines for a babe named Regan Rosenbloom. This infuriates Ron Jon Johnson, a super athletic, machismo-fueled, wheelchair-bound bully who beats up on geeks. After being forced to ingest some guts from a winged, turd-shaped insect, Christopher experiences a bodily invasion that results in serious side effects. Most significantly, he becomes the host to an uber-cool parasite that -- strangely -- boosts his cool and confidence and helps him to score points with Regan. Christopher doesn't realize that the creature also has other plans for him...with dire consequenses.
Maynard produced, directed, and edited THROB and also functioned as the director of photography, make up artist, visual effects artist, and production designer. THROB stars Clinton King as Christopher Kinerbasker, Tom Long as Ron Jon Johnson, Teena McClelland as Regan Rosenbloom and features William Jacobs, Eric Petitti, Thomas Hodge, Carl Baratta, Isak Applin, Roxanne Hopper, Joe Noderer, Jason Karolak, Nate Lowe, Ethan Powers, Alessandro Keegan, Jason Hardwig and Alex Jovanovich in various roles.
“Maynard has succeeded in making a truly grotesque movie reminiscent of David Cronenberg’s most disgusting and disturbing moments.” -- Heidi Martinuzzi, Pretty Scary: For Women in Horror by Women in Horror
