Through Your Eyes Update

After an exhilarating 3 plus weeks of filming our final footage for the documentary, we are excited to announce that the film is in post-production.

Production was a whirlwind. We traveled to New York and visited the Helen Keller National Center. We went to LA where we recorded narrations by Michael Madsen and David Carradine along with other invaluable footage we will use in the final cut. The production team also journeyed to Austin while the state capital was hosting the Texas Deafblind Symposium. Amongst all of our trips we managed to shoot tons of tape around Houston. All in all, we have over 50 hours of High Definition video to work with. None of this would have been possible without the tireless effort of our talented crew. They endured a grueling schedule and put in quality work every single day. Their tremendous efforts will be forever documented in the final product. Thank you to the entire crew.

We finished shooting just 7 days before a submission deadline for a large international film festival. Our editors, Donny Hall and Daniel Contreras, worked around the clock for a week straight to get a first cut of the film done. Astonishingly, they accomplished as much and we are very proud of the first cut of the film we submitted. After endlessly watching what we have and screening it for a few trusted people, we collected notes and have started editing again. There are several more imminent deadlines for other high-profile festivals looming. We are working hard to make sure what we send is of the highest possible quality. Steps still remaining include, but are not limited to: locking the video for the picture, scoring the film, and getting the final audio mix done.

The band Harwin has been in the studio recording original music for their maiden album and the documentary. Their first single, written for the movie, “Behind Those Eyes” is available on the website www.throughyoureyesthemovie.com and iTunes ®.

We are scheduled to be done with the final product late this Spring. Depending on acceptance into various film festivals, we will release the movie to everyone who has pre-ordered the DVD. Thank you again for supporting the Deafblind Children’s Fund and helping spread the word about deafblindness.

On a final note, thank you to everyone who contributed to the movie by allowing us to interview you. Time after time you graciously welcomed us into your homes and interrupted your busy lives to share your stories and knowledge. We feel blessed to have spent time with you and are striving to make you proud.

Not By Sight Fund | Hands Free Entertainment | Deaf Blind Children

There are 70,000 deafblind people living in the United States today. They are all legally deaf and blind, although by definition this does not mean they are all completely without sight or hearing. However, some of them cannot see or hear anything whatsoever. They are faced with obstacles many of us will never comprehend. First and foremost, they must find ways to communicate. They cannot see sign language or hear anyone talk to them. Making it through a day can be a daunting task.

Despite her struggles with deafblindness, Helen Keller became a social activist, prolific author, world-renowned public speaker, and one of the most admired people in the history of the United States. Her success was a direct result of the influence of her teacher, Anne Sullivan. Their unprecedented student/teacher relationship illustrates the almost limitless prosperity possible to any deafblind person given adequate resources.

Sophie, Emma and Zoe Dunn are the only known deafblind triplets in the world. They are 6 years old and live in Spring, Texas with their parents, George and Liz Hooker, and their 9 year old sister, Sarah. George and Liz selflessly devote their time to providing them with all the opportunities possible to live successful, productive lives. While Sophie has very limited sight and hearing, Emma and Zoe are completely devoid of either sense. The Not By Sight fund was specifically created to provide Sophie, Emma, and Zoe with qualified teachers like Anne Sullivan.

"Through Your Eyes" is a documentary produced by Hands Free Entertainment chronicling the Dunn children and other deafblind people living in the United States. The challenges they face are immense. How they cope can be seen "Through Your Eyes."
