About me:
Throwing Stones is the first book in the Finding Home series. It recounts the true life events of Kenneth Connelly during the 1174 days he and his brother were abducted by their father. This groundbreaking case set the rules for handling felony class child theft crimes by a family member. Throwing Stones is very unique in that it not only details the abduction, but gives the intimate story from the child’s point of view. Never before has the question been answered; what does the child experience emotionally and physically during such a traumatic event.
On October 10th, 1980 little Kenny waited happily for his father to pick him up for a weekend visit. With great anticipation he dreamed of what fun he and his father would have. Maybe he would go the beach or have an all night movie party. When the time came and little Kenny opened the door another man, a different man, yet still his father stood before him. Soon Kenny and his siblings would be on a rollercoaster ride from hell. Everything he knew changed with the opening of that door.
Over the next three years their father successfully convinces his children that their mother is dead, a whore, witch and most of all – she hates them. An ever growing distrust swells amongst family members. Night terrors, sleepwalking and self punishment become an everyday occurrence for the young child. Kenny learns to lie, cheat and steal to survive. Always one step ahead of the authorities their father moves his children from state to state. With each move the young child must take on a new name and a new life.
Deep inside him, his mother’s memory is never too far behind. The young boy torn between this faded memory starts to protect his captor from everyone including the police. Three years later he is returned to his mother, covered with parasites and unsure who to trust or believe. Kenny is now a shell of his former self and afraid to reach out for help. Never before has a book captured the intimate details of a long term abduction until now. Throwing Stones steps into the mind of a child, allowing the reader a firsthand account of what it means to be missing.
About the Author
Kenneth Connelly is an Author, Speaker and Educator on Parental Child Abduction. He is a former law enforcement officer, emergency medical technician, disabled veteran of the United States Army, and active in the Texas State Guard. He has worked as an adult and juvenile corrections officer. He has testified as an expert witness for similar cases. He has spoken before the Texas State Congress, and his involvement with the Center for the Missing and other organizations has helped put a face to this quiet crime.
Mr. Connelly takes great care in educating the similarities of stranger based and non stranger based child abduction. As a former stolen child he participated in an educational video that is used to educate professionals and individuals about the effects of child theft. Kenneth teaches others how a parent hides and manipulates their children in order to evade prosecution. Mr. Connelly answers the question: Why do children stay in a long-term-abduction, and not run-away or ask for help.
Kenneth lives with his family in Richardson, Texas. Kenneth is a freelance sports photojournalist for the Wylie Telegraph, Farmersville Times and Princeton Herald. Kenneth continually educates himself in hopes to better understand why this crime occurs and the stresses placed upon the child. When given the chance you can find him at 10,000 feet, cameras at his side-backcountry hiking with his wife, children and miniature schnauzer, String.
