Sounds Like
Well known 80's cover songs are now our specialty. Everything from My Sharona to Jessie's Girl to Hungry Like the Wolf to Talk Dirty to Me. Take your favorite 1980's cover tunes, soak them in booze, dress them up in Hypercolor shirts and spandex pants and put a crowd in front of them and there you have Throwing Toast.
Ok, so here’s the scene: It's a beautiful spring day, sun shining, 75 degrees. Top is down and you have the disc changer crammed full of all your favorite music from the 80’s. You have the stereo cranked up and you are singing out loud not caring who hears you. Sound familiar? If you have ever been to a Throwing Toast performance then you’ll what we’re talking about.
Throwing Toast's mission is a simple one; to fulfill people’s longing…their undying thirsts…for the classic 80s pop rock music they grew up with. Remember making out to Modern English’s “I Melt with You” on prom night…or crank calling “867-5309” wondering who would answer, or maybe making up dirty lyrics to “My Sharona”…how about making a fool of yourself jamming air guitar to Poison’s “Talk Dirty to Me”? Maybe you do, maybe you didn’t…either way may find yourself doing all the above after experiencing Des Moines’ premiere 80s cover band, Throwing Toast!.
From the likes of The Cars and Tommy Tutone to Guns & Roses and Poison,The Cure and Modern English to Rick Springfeld and LoverboyThrowing Toast incorporates 4-part vocal harmonies, cock-rock guitars, and a pounding rhythm section that will quench that thirst for the music that so many of us “came of age” to so long ago…
Brother can you spare a buck? Marijuana Music Award Winning Songs, "Light 'Em Up" feat. Afroman and "Brother Can You Spare A Dime" now available on itunes & CD Baby.

Friends, fellow musicians, music lovers I am most pleased to announce a new partnership with Lightning Red an exceptional blues guitar player and vocalist. Red very recently moved here from Austin, Texas where he competed for gigs with some of the country’s best talent. You can hear his music and read more about him at www. LightningRed. com Red said he wanted to form an acoustic blues duo to play restaurants and coffee houses in Central Iowa. I had been thinking the same thing for months. When he said he wanted to play a mix of originals and songs of the blues masters – Sonny Terry, Brownie McGee, Jimmy Reed, Sonny Boy Williamson, Little Walter, James Cotton, Muddy Waters, BB King and others – I knew we were in the same head space. After our first rehearsal I knew we had something. I think you’ll feel it the moment you hear us. As you know I’ve been doing this a while myself. See my “resume” and hear my music at www. myspace. com/CurryHarp I’ve been fortunate to connect with “Stoney” (Dave Stone) owner of three restaurants in the Des Moines area. At one of his restaurants, Waveland Café West/Booneville Bar, he spoke of wanting to extend his hours of operation on Sundays, have Curry & Red do something special at least once a month, and create a unique menu for that day only each time. I of course am excited to be a part of his growing business. The first event is this coming Sunday, January 25 from 3-5 pm. So, while Red and I sing and play some good time blues, you can stuff your face with gourmet pizza sandwiches, drink beer, tea, or whatever you drink. It’s a family restaurant with a reputation for quality, generous portions, and local ambiance. Directions: From Des Moines take 80 west to the Waukee/Booneville exit. Turn left/south on Ute Avenue. Go 2 miles to Waveland Café West and Booneville Bar, 3571 Ute Avenue, Booneville, Iowa. Curry & Red
