With a creative consciousness birthed from the crossroads where The Band stopped during a late night drive for an early breakfast with The Clash, The Thumbprint Railway Co. create an anxious rock sound with subtle nods to their influences.
The TRCo. burst from a spark emitted at that time when age and lethargy combine to get the best of a person. It ignited two long time friends' desire to continue playing music – for themselves at the very least. The skill, passion, and earnestness that was poured into those original songs exploded into a burst of light that signaled the rest of the band to gather. It reached to old friends from the North and the West, pulling them into a dimly lit attic by car, train, and plane, creating a bi-coastal calvary that has recently been firmly supplanted in the Northeast.
The band embodies a punk soaked spirit that looks back at its younger self – snickering while scratching out its own melody. Steeped in the Beatles and ALL that comes from men finding such a band at a young age, the players acknowledge the deep history from whence they have emerged while keeping an unwavering eye towards a possible future. This recognition saturates their approach to music and permeates their work. One can hear that in the lyrics as the band laments the vices and dark days that can haunt our past while finding a way to note that there is still hope to be better as we grow. The instruments play out these scenes non-verbally, pinballing between arpegiated beauty and growling fragments, creating a synthesis of words and music that encapsulates this honest attitude towards their art.
With a kinetic live show TRCo has played a handful of dates to attentive crowds in the Boston area (The Middle East, TT the Bears, The Bulfinch Yacht Club) over the past year and already have plans to extend their grasp into the greater Atlantic region over the coming months.
No longer a project, a collaboration or even simply a band – TRCo is a commitment to its creators with boundless reigns. The Thumbprint Railway Company steams through the heart of its four core members, but remains amorphous as it continues to pick up new riders along the way.
