It's useless to try and talk about it: the return of the Pink Turtle - the band has been at Ascona under the name 'The Gigolos', which was a different musical project that lasted over 10 years! - constitutes one of the most awaited events in the upcoming edition of JazzAscona. The French 7-piece band returns to the scene after an almost 40-year absence. The group had broken up long ago in 1969, at the apex of an international success and at the close of a world tour that had seen them victorious on the most important stages. The key to the French band's success lies in its "swing" revisitations of pop-rock standards from the Eagles' "Hotel California" to "Smoke on the Water" of the Deep Purple. Their "swing", as pointed out by the critics, has had a strong influence on pop music and on rock ballads of artists such as the Bee Gees, Supertramp, Simon & Garfunkel and Stevie Wonder. A group that has lost not a grain of its old polish, The Gigolos capture their public with their skits, comic interludes, and swing interpretations of unforgettable hits that have made the trip around the world.

JazzAscona New Orleans & Classics is today one of the two big world events devoted to traditional jazz. During its 22 years ofexistence, the festival hosted many legends of New Orleans jazz, as well as the principal artists on the traditional and classical jazzscene worldwide. The concerts range from traditional New Orleans to Chicago-style jazz, from swing to mainstream, including ragtime, gospel, blues, and R&B.

When and where do the concerts take place?

JazzAscona will feature an average of 20 daily concerts for a total of about 400 hours of music. The bands invited to perform are 35, for a total of about 250 musicians.
The concerts start at 10 am and go on until 4 am the following morning. About half of them take place on 8 stages in bars, restaurants, and hotels (often on outdoor terraces), while the other half takes place in the evening on the romantic lakeside, where thousands of people attend about fifteen outdoor concerts on the five main stages, from 8 pm to 1 am. Night owls can also attend the jam sessions that go on until dawn...


Please note that Ascona is a small town (the historical center is closed to traffic!) and concerts are easily accessible, only a few minutes away on foot from stage to stage.
