Environments:
Home (ideas captured in one take hits) Gear includes a couple mics, and oldish preamp, and laptop, and synth and heaps of 5 string nylon guitars, and my voice.
Portable (prepared found sounds) Gear includes couple mics, laptop.
Studio Tracking (prepared samples) Studio equipment is vast ahhhhhhh, this is where I create sound libraries of many different textures, many found objects, using lots of different transducing techniques. Top notch gear/converters/clock.
Studio Mix (bring in finished tracks) Mix on modified yamaha pm2000 vintage desk, with assortment of outboard gear such as universal audio 1176's dbx 160's, Pultec all running through an Aurora Lynx io. So pretty much this side of the project is in a different head space, it's short, only 2hrs is allowed for mixing, it's mainly to just push all sounds into a neat package that can translate to the common ear. Warm, with mid's mainly in mind.
External Mastering (someone else to master and tick of the tracks) Not much of a change, maybe a few versions, one for digital translation and one for vinyl pressing.
Conditioning Rules 3.0
Step 1: Apart from collecting and data basing my own sample library, which started on september 21st 2007 (world peace day) The rules to realise a new track, work in this way alone.
If the subject (tidy kid) is able to go to sleep at 10pm, with clothes laid out next to bed in body fashion and ones wings are strapped to ones bed, then the subject may get up in the morning to sounds of a bear growling from ones mobile phone alarm, at 5.30am. The 5 string classical guitar is placed in ones hands, and with a single mic the subject starts to play for 30minutes, which doubles as a mediation cycle. Eyes closed at times, but viewing the early secondary sun light emanating over the houses of Brisbane will be part of the visible additives.
From this material, it is stored, and a few words are documented about what dreams the subject woke up from, and this info is data based along with the audio.
Step 2: The subject can then at a later stage, when one see's fit, to read the dream notes, listen to the nylon guitar material, and select a portion without editing for a under the line track, or cut and paste and manipulate the performance, if the dream notes were scarce, which will translate into an above the line track. (quickie) Tidy Kid is a fictional musical character, conceptualised to help push innovative musical experimentations, in the hope for a new outlook and philosophy on life and the brain's relationship with ones spirit. In other words, concept driven sound projects, which urge your view's to push through modern trends. It currently sounds a bit like electronica......however what lies next is a full length Album, which will bend it self between, the biological self and the non biological self, or other. I am you, you are me, you know what i'm getting at, let's go grow this tree ..... peace ....... waves ..... and many dots ....... dot .
So Fragments? whats up with that? . . aehhhh beeee!! Tidy has just finished creating a 25 minute long performance piece, which was then filmed as a collaboration project between sie kid and artist, Nick McGavern. It is now being edited for use in a variety of post production releases, such as the free EP in the player above, a free download version on Acroplane, now available! and a limited edition DVD version available in November. This was presented together with an art exhibition at Alchemix Studios in Brisbane Australia, see the pics section for art work and stills from the performance.

People Sit In Cars is Tidy Kid's current hard copy EP which was boxed up and delivered in September 2006.
You'll also find it on I-tunes, but I can't see the point of that. If however, you fancy! you can help support Tidy, by making a special purchase of a real CD in your hand. The pacakge is quite neat, half cut disk with clear outsides, a worthy collectors item! Only 1000 copies, NO re-prints!
The Ep is a collection of short audio pieces, constructed on top of vocal + single accompaniment, improvised one takers, with layers of electro , nylon 5 string guitars, object sounds, vocal harmony's and real drum sounds manipulated to suit each piece. All sounds are hand placed, no samplers/midi etc are used. Project Conditioning rules were defined before starting this tidy kid project. "It helps me to identify motivations, related to how the recording is to take place, how to transduce the sound and being at ease with restrictions in audio mixing and mastering". The debut is based around a pretty pure signal chain, eliminating any negative concerns with ones creativity. It may seem like a frustrative way to compose, with restrictions that disallow a wider pallet of sounds, but it's an exercise, which is simply leading up to the next step.
Frozen Flower Pot is a waking dream in a bright New York flat. Yes, it’s winter and there’s a cat under your bed, its ears are twitchy (so maybe this is the cat’s waking dream – or is it the dream of that dying plant on the windowsill? No, let’s not say dying, but dormant.) While listening you may think you’re rising out of bed, but you’re not, actually it’s the flat around you that’s coming to life – see the radiator click along the floorboards to the washroom? See the toaster stretch and shudder? This is how I feel while listening to Tidy Kid’s much-too-brief EP Frozen Flower Pot. Four songs comprising a dream that’ll linger, that’ll make you wish you had stayed in bed just a little longer (though while in bed something was telling you get up now, get up now). Yes, the room was bright, and there was a Cheshire Cat grin in your sleeping face, and the sun worked its way across the room. (Review by Lee Thompson)

EP 4, titled "One Week With My Casio" will be out in October
It will be released as a collectors item, the form? ahhh it be good, a casette! As well as a few net labels for those with i pods in their hands. Current single from EP 4 is titled "Bla Bla Booo!". Check player at top for preview.
The Album is underway, lifting the earlier restrictions of EP 1 and 2. The Album will be titled,
"I Drew A Line".
Currently sound libraries are being created in studio, with project conditionings and rules being developed. Tidy Kid is going to put everything he has into this Album, a true artistic effort, with tracks above the drawn line associating them selves with this world, and sounds below the line turning their back to the safety's and walls that make up this conditioned game.
