The upcoming singing sensation Tifa was born Latifa Brown on December 12, in Kingston, Jamaica. Her interest in music developed from a very young age, as collecting records/albums was the hobby of both her parents. She especially enjoyed listening to musical legends such as Earth Wind and Fire, Patti Labelle and Aretha Franklin. Though Tifa now resides in the uptown area of Kingston, she spent her younger years living on Duke Street in downtown Kingston with her mother after her parents separated in 1986. The environment along with her stepfather, Sampalue, the reggae producer who assisted in the building of several music careers such as Lady Saw, gave her a deep rooted love for dancehall music. While attending Wolmers Preparatory, Tifa was actively involved in the School Choir, Drama Club and Wolmers Dance Troupe, where she won a gold medal in the 1994 festival competition. Tifa’s talent and love for the dramatic arts landed her a performance in the 1995 musical “Psalty the Singing Song Book,” which staged at the National Arena and also in Montego Bay. A year later, Tifa was a member of the Ashe Caribbean Performing Arts Academy and Ensemble with whom she extensively toured the Caribbean and North America during 1996 to 2000. At Wolmers High School for Girls, Tifa focused on dancing, where she choreographed several of her high school concerts. As recognition for her choreographing talents grew, so did her passion for singing and songwriting. In early 2005, she decided to put her music first, recording on her stepfather’s record label Diamond Rush Records. She also collaborated with a number of his artists as well as others and sang backup for a short while. Tifa has since teamed with producers like Danny Champagne from Champagne International Records and has also recorded tracks with Senanka Records. Her first single "Oh-Oh!" was produced by Flow Factory. The video was also put out for "Oh Oh!" which was directed by Asha as well as herself. Tifa has been working really hard in the studio to produce highly talked about singles such as “Your Friend a/k/a I’m So Sorry,” which was produced by Ward 21 on the Bad Belly Riddim, underground hit “Kitty Police” for TJ Records on the Show Off Riddim, “I’m Leaving,” and “Bad Mind” on the Rae Riddim, also on the Ward 21 label. More recently, she has had great success with her single “Crawny Gal” on the Dem Gal Sitt’n Riddim produced again by Ward 21. The compilation CD was released to rave reviews in Japan where it was released and worldwide. The medley, which features all females, is also of great critical acclaim, as well as the five other videos that she has done. Songs like “Tinky Winky” featuring her label-mate Timberlee have created quite a stir and controversy. Her single “Mr. T” has also been receiving a lot of good reviews and airplay on the Dutty Water Riddim, and was also featured on the compilation CD for Stinkin Dutty Water, which also received great reviews on the local and international scene. The CD also had a Japanese release. Tifa has been working with a host of other Jamaicans as well as other overseas producers, with Ward 21 at the forefront, to bring you a host of other singles to bring delight to your ears. Tifa presently is working on her first and upcoming album entitled “Sex, Love & Lies” which will have a Japan/European release, hopefully this summer. The young talent has also created a buzz with her singing and performing skills on well-known local shows such as Champions in Action 2006, Spring Break’s 8th and 9th anniversary this year, as well as a host of other shows in Jamaica, including giving her beautiful talent to a number of high schools. More Recently, she received unbelievable reviews in Belize March 22 and 23, 2008 where she had shows, and is set to do upcoming shows in the United States, South Africa, London, the Caribbean, and a six-week tour in Europe beginning in July with her mentors and producers Ward 21. With a strong and experienced management team behind her, headed by Otis Davis, Ward 21 and Ai Irasawa, Tifa is set to make her way to the top.
