Sounds Like
old-time music
with a funky twist,
great harmonious vocals,
and red-hot fiddling
Tiger Maple String Band
blossomed from their
shared love
of old time music.
Fred, Mark, and Barry had jammed
for many years in different configurations
experimenting with different tastes of music.
At this same time,
Justine and Alison spent countless hours,
as well as most of their young lives,
playing the violin
and becoming very good fiddlers.
All attended
the Great Blue Heron Music Festival for years
and continued to return year after year
to get another dose of
the roots, vibes, and love that was poured out
from the old time bands.
These five musicians gathered around
an old wood burner on
many, chilly nights, starting to create
their own sound and explore
the ever-changing form of old time music.
Sometime in the summer of 2003,
Fred met Lori
while she was working at a local coffee shop.
After some coffee and conversation,
he asked her if she would like to join the band.
Loris beautiful voice and guitar playing soon
became responsible for giving the band
that special sparkle, something that only
bright female vocals can bring.
A good friend of Loris
and wife to Mark, Liz,
joins the band when she is able
to assist the sound with her
sweet, sweet, harmonies.
Tiger Maple String Band performs
at many places:
the Great Blue Heron Music Festival,
locally at various clubs and beer joints,
dances,
as well as private gatherings,
back porches,
front porches,
etc.

"Ticklin' The Strings" by Sweet Hollywaiians
Amazing Japanese hot string band playing 1920's, 30's, 40's style hawaiian, swing, calypso, blues, italian music and originals, featuring vintage instruments.3 songs with Robert Armstrong and Tony Marcus(from Robert Crumb and His Cheap Suit Serenaders)
"The Sweet Hollywaiians have probably the best feel for this 20's music of any string band working today. They manage the rare feat of sounding relaxed even when their playing is hot, are top notch musicians with tasteful arrangements and a full, rich, warm sound.Plus, they have a nice gamut of tunes, from King Nawahi to Giovanni Vicari to Bobby Leecan. See them live, if you can, for an unforgettable experience. If you can't, buy their Cds!" ~ Terry Zwigoff
