I am a working bassist with over 40 years experience. Started playing electric bass in 1965 and double bass in 1969. I love all styles of music. My playing and teaching methods are practical and hands-on.

I teach theory, technique and their practical application in the construction of solid bass lines. I like to help my students develop thier ears and an overall understanding of music.

The bass line is the foundation of the song. It holds the song together and anchors it rhythmically and harmonically. To build that bass line you need a good working knowledge of the scales and modes, chords and chord progressions, melody, harmony and time. These are the bricks of which the foundation is constructed.

My students learn to handle the bass, to build the bass lines, to improvise, and to express themselves in the beautiful medium of music. A student musician needs to learn the basic skills, and also needs a safe place to practice applying those skills by playing songs. I generally divide the lesson about half and half between the techical and the practical, between learning the theory and playing tunes together.

I love to teach. Playing and teaching the bass is a wonderful life.

We play weddings and parties. It's a treat to be a part of someone's special day, someone's birthday party, anniversery, or wedding. All the bands listed here play these events regularly. A good wedding band is able to play a variety of styles. It's sensitive to the needs of the party, when it's appropriate to play quietly and provide background music for a meal or conversation, and when it's time to kick the energy level up a notch for dancing.
