Music/starting a band/learning any instrument that I possibly can (currently learning: Trumpet, harmonica, guitar, bass, keyboard/piano). Books--as far as fiction, I only really read Stephen King (I haven't found another author I like, and I think Dean Koontz sucks), and as far as nonfiction, I prefer documentaries about politics and/or the punk rock/underground scene movements.
Music
In alphabetical order: Alkaline Trio, Anti-Flag, Bad Religion, Black Sabbath/Ozzy Ozbourne, Blink-182, Bottle Rockets, The Clash, Collective Soul, Cracker, The Damned, Dead Kennedys, Fall Out Boy, Flogging Molly, Green Day, Jimmy Buffet, Louis Armstrong, Midnight Oil, NOFX, The Offspring, OK Go, Pennywise, REM, Ramones/Joey Ramone, Rancid, Sum 41, U2, Rock Against Bush (Hell Yeah!), ZZ Top, and various others.
Movies
Rock 'N' Roll High School, Pet Sematary, The Stand, Spaghetti Westerns, Fahrenheit 9/11, and that one Pokemon movie--it was so bad it was fucking funny :)
Television
I'm big into animated comedies like Family Guy, The Simpsons, King of the Hill, and South Park (especially Family Guy). I don't necessarily share all the views of those shows, but I still like 'em 'cause they're still funny.
Books
Favorite books include The Stand & The Dark Tower by Stephen King, as well as Phantoms & Whispers by Dean R. Koontz. Also by Koontz, The Bad Place is okay just because of how bad it sucked--it was so bad, it actually wrapped around the scale and became good (Mentally Handicapped Telekinetic Hermaphrodite Vampires FTW!). I also like to read fan fiction (that doesn't suck), because so much popular fiction today is just fluff and wordiness, and I like to get in touch with other amateurs and swap ideas for stories and such (I also wrote a fanfic or two; you can find my longest one, "Silent Hill 5: Back of Beyond" at fanfiction.net, clocking in at just over 330,000 words 0.0).
Heroes
Joey & The Ramones, definitely. I never would have learned to play guitar (some would call that a blessing) if not for the Ramones. Also, ZZ Top, Green Day & The Offspring, for helping me advance my guitar style & stance. Stephen King, too, because he inspired me to write stories and he helped me form the basis of my own fiction and songwriting style--they're all really inspirational figures to me.
About me: Hi, I'm Tim. I've been playing guitar and bass for about a year and a half now, and I'm looking for like-minded musicians who are interested in pursuing a career in the music industry. I'm particularly partial to punk, grunge, pop, and rock, but I'm still branching out, so I'm willing to learn just about anything. I don't want to "sell out," per se, though I also don't want to be in a band that's going to put its ideologies over the quality of the music (i.e. "I won't play solos because that's not punk," or "I won't play that because it's not metal," etc. etc.). I have my dislikes, too, but I can't stand genre-oriented players. In any case, if you're interested in joining/forming a band, hit me up :)
Who I'd like to meet: I'd like to meet Stephen King (I'm a hardcore fan, and I own and have read everything he's written to date). My all-time biggest musical influences, though, are as follows, in no particular order: Green Day, The Offspring, Ramones, Jello Biafra and the Dead Kennedys, Midnight Oil, Collective Soul, NOFX, Sum 41, Alkaline Trio, Anti-Flag, Cracker, The Clash, The Bottle Rockets, OK Go, and Bad Religion.
Other stuff I listen to (that I like, but haven't had the time to get to know really well yet) includes Tim Armstrong and Rancid, Fall Out Boy, and The Damned.
Stuff I like but have no particular attachment to includes U2 and REM.
Stuff I absolutely can't stand includes The Sex Pistols (see blog), The Killers (also see blog), Slipknot, Metallica/any screamo-puke band, any band/artist whose entire career rides on the fact that they are part of a certain genre (i.e. "it doesn't matter how we sound because we're punk, right? We got the image!").
Nice. I've got a bunch of new shit written, and I think with a lot of this new stuff we can turn Saviors of Flavor into one of the catchiest, most fun albums ever made.
I'm thinking about eventually investing in a sampler or a synthesizer, or maybe just finding someone that could be fully devoted to the keyboard.
I think having a brass section would be fucking stellar, as well, if we can find anyone with those talents.
And yeah, definitely planning to do more work with GANM. Just not sure how right now. There's a lot I want to do with it, and a lot of the things I have in mind for it now require a full band and then some.
All I really do lately is work and sleep. I still don't have a way to record anything but it doesnt matter because i recently threw away all of my old songs. Looking back they all sucked, so I've decided to just start over now that I'm a little more experienced.
this is pure gold. i couldnt get the link to work on myspace. maybe you can. if not go to kieth oberman at msnbc. com. and look for his anti american rant.
I'd bring my Telecaster (guitar). And my amp is at Harley's house, he lives behind big lots, so, unless either of you have a amp I can use I should probably get that beforehand.
