I'm a writer, performance poet and musician. I do gigs all over the UK. My first book, We Can't All Be Astronauts, is out now from Ebury Press. It's about dreams, thwarted ambition, and my last-ditch attempt to be a star. My Dad laughed at the people 'randomly dancing' in the lower window. We'll see if he's still laughing when he reads what I've written about him. No, that's a joke. I have wonderful parents. Over the years they've been a continual and unfailing source of money.
Other cool stuff I have done: I've written for the Guardian, the Independent and the Times, I presented the Channel 4 series 'How To Get A Book Deal', I've appeared on BBC2, Radio 1, 2 and 6, and I've performed at lots of festivals including Glastonbury, Leeds and Reading, and Latitude.
If you'd like to book me for a gig, get in touch. If you'd just like to say hello, get in touch too. Especially get in touch if you have an awesome cake or pie recipe to share.
Here is a music video made by Line & A Dot for my song, 'The Girl From Donkey Kong':
Here is another video, featuring my rendition of 'Favourite Things':
I have so been a resident at a regular night in London called Homework. Here are some bits and pieces from the preview of our latest show about the blurry lines between real life and video games, called Infinite Lives:
Come see us at the marquee in norwich on Friday October 30th - a halloween gig and we'll be previewing songs from our new album.... DO IT (come on, I don’t wanna have to cut you)
AND come see us at www.twitter.com/bearsuit band to follow what we're up to at the studio today....
So it seems that you're virtually my only friend. Note that I play the ukulele also, but note also that i ukulele the play. I do it much worse than you seem to in the selected excerpts allocated for my ears. Also, I have the exact same ukulele as you, which encourages me to burn it in some weird 1940s hendrix-formby crossover. Wait, i stray from the point. Maybe have a listen to my poems, i mean obviously you're a busy man, so but i'm not so i can't understand that. Right whatever then, bye then, whatever, yea, eat that.
Cheers for the add. I'll hopefully catch you at Komedia in September. I'd suggest subscribing to my blog, but after reading yours I figured you had enough of that shit in your own head without slopping in some more from mine.
I'm afraid I don't have a cake or pie recipe to share (although my ma's lemon drizzle is the bomb, it's also a closely guarded secret), but just wanted to say I enjoyed Lost In Translation immensely at Port Eliot last weekend.
I even got a signed book from you afterwards; I shall treasure it always. Unless, of course, you blow up and become a hugely successful author, in which case I might consider flogging it on Ebay in order to pay off my large debts...
Just read on your blog that you're poorly. Now I'm no nurse* but the symptoms you describe sound a lot like CancerAids. It isn't as deadly as it sounds** but you may be out of action for some time. Please may I borrow your life?
... starring Alan Moore, Steve Aylett, Josie Long, Stewart Lee, Jeff Vandermeer, DH Wilson, Mr Solo, Robin Ince, Leila Johnston, 7-Inch Stitch, Bill Ectric, Andrew O'Neill, Mitzi Szereto, Mo Ali etc. Out late 2009 probably.
Hurrah you're playing at the Birdcage, lovely things. Only thing is I'm worried about infringing you because I have a new Year song about an amputee with incredibly strong arms whose name is Jenny. Maybe it could be a sequal to your brilliant song which I love.
Erm. I may have bent the truth about you on your girlfriends profile. But hey, look on the bright side. Comparatively your book will serve as a glowing character reference (albeit one written by yourself). I hope your head feels better... x
