Interests

  • General

Timeless MythsLiterature on mythology and legend are ones of my main interests. I have my own website on mythology, called Timeless Myths (www.timelessmyths.com).

Timeless Myths have pages and articles on myths, legends and the deities and people who have fascinate us for centuries. Myths coming from ancient Greece and Rome, from the cold northern kingdoms of Scandinavia, and the Celtic British Isles, which also include legends about Arthur and the Grail.

I do hope people of MySpace will visit and enjoy Timeless Myths.

I am also very interested in history, archaeology and anthropology; especially in the studies of ancient civilisations and cultures.

Because mythology is sometimes related to culture and religions, I also have a "side-interest" in religion. I am interested in understanding both monotheistic and polytheistic religions. Timeless Myths explored briefly on such matters (in Classical and Norse Mythology). I have also created a website called Dark Mirrors of Heaven (www.timelessmyths.com/mirrors/), which explored the non-canonical Judaeo-Christian literature of the creation mythology, such as the Haggada, the Book of Enoch, Kabbalistic texts, Dead Sea Scrolls, and Gnostic texts (from the Nag Hammadi). These extra-biblical texts provide us different views of the Judaic-Christian creation myth to that found in the canonical and biblical Genesis.

Arts, such as paintings, sculpture, photography and architecture, are all of great interests to me. As are my interests in astronomy and science.

    I also liked music.

  • Music

James HollandsI have written one song in 2002, which James Hollands, had recorded and produced, an album titled UNITED (2003). This album was produced in limited quantity, and distributes the small number of CDs to local non-profit organisations. However, anyone can listen or download any of the songs from the official website from Young Ossies Unite (www.youngossiesunite.org).

The idea behind James Hollands was to gather some local aspiring songwriters or musicians to participate in James' project. I was one of the members in our group to write a song.

My song is called You Changed My Life. You can hear my song right here.

Young Ossies Unite: UNITEDThe official site for UNITED album is www.youngossiesunite.org, which I have completely re-designed, and where you can download all the songs or see the lyrics, read our bios. You will also find UNITED's MySpace at Young Ossies Unite: UNITED.

Now, as to the types of music that I like to listen range from rock, pop and R&B to dance, jazz, folk rock and some alternative rocks.

The artists that I particularly enjoy are something like U2, Police (long since disbanded, but now reunited), Moby, Crowded House (Neil Finn; also formerly from Split Enz), Goo Goo Dolls, the Corrs, Dido, Roxette, Pat Benatar, Kelly Clarkson, and Madonna.

    Dido - Here With Me

As for Australian musics, most of them are no longer playing (well, I have not heard them for quite a while), such as Cold Chisel (which include Jimmy Barnes and Ian Moss), Icehouse, or I just not heard much from them. More recent artists like the Veronicas.

    Crowded House - Don't Dream It's Over

    Sinner | MySpace Video

On some occasions, I will even listen to classical musics, particularly Vivaldi and Mozart, my 2 favorite classical music composers.

  • Movies

The Lord of the Rings, of course.

Generally, I like adventure/action movies (Gladiator, Matrix, Spider-man 1 & 2, The 13th Warrior, Blade Runner, The Island, Mr and Mrs Smith, some of the James Bond's movies)

The Indiana Jones films, The Mummy films (with Brendan Fraser).

I do like drama and comedy, on occasions.

I particularly like some old classic movies, like The Big Sleep (with Humphrey Bogart), or those Marx Brothers movies, and those movies directed by Hitchcock (North by Northwest, The Birds, Psycho).

  • Television

Stargate SG1My favorite TV series are The X-Files, Serenity/FireFly and Stargate (SG1 and Atlantis). So I do like sci-fi.

The only Star Trek series I really like is ST Enterprise with Scott Bakula, though ST: The Next Generation is ok.

Sarah Michelle Gellar as Buffy the Vampire SlayerBelieve it or not, I like Buffy the Vampire Slayer series, with Sarah Michelle Gellar. I didn't like the original movie. Joss Whedon, creator of Buffy, was also the creator of Firefly series (and Serenity), so I apparently I like his imaginative adventure and humor in his TV series.

I do enjoy comedy on occasion, particularly, 2-and-half men, Fraser, Cheers, Black Adder. And I certainly can't leave out Top Gear (not the damn phoney Australian version).

  • Books

Ancient and medieval literature, particularly if it has a mythological theme.

Homer: The OdysseyHomer's Iliad and Odyssey are my favorite classics. So far, the best translations of these masterpieces come from the late Robert Fagles.

I also like the following works of the Athenian playwrights: Euripides' Medea, The Bacchae; Sophocles' Oedipus Rex; and Aeschylus' Agamemnon. Of the Roman works, I like Ovid's entertaining Metamorphoses and Virgil's epic The Aeneid.

Gilgamesh is definitely my favorite in the Mesopotamian (or Near Eastern) literature.

The Saga of the VolsungsThe Volsunga Saga and the Snorri Sturluson's Prose Edda are the best sources for the Norse mythological literature. While the Celtic literature would include Cath Mag Tuired and Tain Bo Cuailnge.Tain Bo Cuailnge

There are many ancient and medieval literature that I could name, but don't have the time nor too incline to name them here.

    As to more modern stuffs.

Raymond Feist: MagicianI have whole collection of fantasy novels, from Raymond Feist (the original Riftwar trilogy, like Magician, Silverthorn, A Darkness of Sethanon); from David Eddings (The Belgariad series), from David Gemmell (Drenai series), and from the late Robert Jordan (Wheel of Time series, though I got bored with his series at book 7 and later). Trilogy known as DragonLance Chronicles and DragonLance Legends by Margaret Weiss and Tracy Hickman are very entertaining fantasy. And there are also Tolkien's books too: The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, and Silmarillion.

I like other adventure novels, like thriller novels (from Umberto Eco's The Name of the Rose, from spy thriller of Helen McInnes and Eric Ambler) and occasion crime/detective novels (from Jonathan and Faye Kellerman, Lawrence Sanders). And on even rarer occasions, I might read horror novels, and I'll have to say that I like James Herbert (Haunted and The Ghosts of Sleath) and few books from Graham Masterton, but I'm generally not into vampire novels.

  • Heroes

From the mythological genre: Homer's Odysseus (The Odyssey). Heracles, Perseus, Achilles and Hector. The mythological heroines would be Atalanta, Medea, Antigone and Cassandra.

TV/Film fictional heroes: Indiana Jones, Fox Mulder and Dana Scully (The X-Files). Jack O'Neill (Stargate). James Bond, Simon Templar, MacGyver. Buffy and Angel.

But if you're talking about more real people than fictional, then the following are my heroes.

Leonardo da Vinci: The Vitruvian ManArtists (as in painters): Leonardo Da Vinci, Michelangelo, Titian, Raphael, Sandro Botticelli, Renoir. Also the humanist Leon Battista Alberti; the architects and sculptors, like Donatello, Donato Bramante, Filippo Brunelleschi.

    Scientists: Galileo, Newton, Einstein...

    Oh, I almost forgot...the STIG!

About me:

Hey, everyone. My name is Jimmy.

First of all, I am here mainly for making new friends and networking, as well as a place for visitors of few of my websites to give me with feedback.

I've used alias or name of the Storyteller, because I known in some (cyber-)circles, esp with forums and development of my website Timeless Myths (www.timelessmyths.com).

Reading and learning about myths, legend and folklore is one of my passions, which is why I created Timeless Myths. Timeless Myths has pages and articles of myths and legends from Europe, especially Greek/Roman, Celtic and Norse myths.

The other site I've created was my involvement with James Hollands' project - Young Ossies Unite (www.youngossiesunite.org), where we have created an album. You can read more about Young Ossies Unite in my Interests -> Music.

I've decided to use MySpace for people who visited the 2 sites to contact me with feedback. I am also using MySpace to meet new people - through networking.

I've hoped that new people will visit both sites that I helped to create.

Who I'd like to meet:

Adriana LimaFor the actress: Angelina Jolie. Rachel Weisz, Jessica Alba, Kate Beckinsale, Keira Knightley, Navi Rawat, Megan Fox, Charlize Theron.

Tori PraverTori Praver (left; see my blog on Tori). Miranda Kerr, Olga Kurylenko, Monica Bellucci, Adriana Lima (right), Alessandra Ambrosio, Doutzen Kroes, Izabel Goulart, Gisele Bündchen, Claudia Galanti, Laetitia Casta, Jarah Mariano, Josie Maran, Cindy Crawford.... And the list goes on....

The CorrsMusicians/Singers: Sting, Neil Finn, Bono (U2), Dido, Joss Stone, Kelly Clarkson. I'd also like to meet all 3 of the Corr sisters (Sharon, Caroline and Andrea).

Classical music composers: Vivaldi, Mozart, Beethoven.

On the artistic side, I would like to meet Phidias, Ictinus, Callicrates; Marcus Vitruvius Pollio. And Leon Battista Alberti, Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Raphael, Filippo Brunelleschi, Titian, Albrecht Dürer, Rembrandt, Goya, Renoir, Van Gough.

Intellectual giants: Socrates, Aristotle, Nicolaus Copernicus, Galileo, Johannes Kepler, Isaac Newton, Charles Darwin, Thomas Henry Huxley, Einstein.

And...Homer, Hesiod, Sophocles, Euripides, Ovid. Snorri Sturluson, Chrétien de Troyes.
