Musically speaking, the Pseudo-science EP offers a harder edge to Ireland’s carefully constructed, bittersweet songs, signalling a sharp shift in direction from the folkish melancholia of his well-received 2005 debut album, Down in the Well. Fuelling the new sound is the scything, Pixies-inspired surf guitar of Damien Lane (The Shipwrecked), the driving drums of Josh Schuberth (of Josh Pyke fame) and the melodic bass of Kenny Feather (choreographer, tai chi master and international man of mystery).
