I am an anti-racist educator, essayist and activist, and the author of two books: White Like Me: Reflections on Race From a Privileged Son, and Affirmative Action: Racial Preference in Black and White.
I have been doing anti-racism work since I was 14, and professionally since graduating college from Tulane University, in New Orleans, in 1990. I have spoken on over 400 college campuses, in 48 states, since going out on the lecture circuit in 1995. My essays are distributed widely and can be read, among other places, on my website, which is Tim Wise.org
Most of what I know about racism, I learned from people of color: folks in public housing in New Orleans, with whom I had the honor of working for fifteen months as a community organizer and advocate in the mid-90s; writers like James Baldwin, Angela Davis, and Elizabeth 'Betita' Martinez, among many others; and the amazing leadership of the People's Institute for Survival and Beyond.
