Tim Matthews has been playing the guitar for more than 15 years and singing for even longer. He has also been a professional actor for 20 years (which means that he started young, not that he’s a decade or so older than he looks) and has enjoyed some very successful engagements during this time. Highlights would include his appearance in 7 episodes of BBC/HBO’s 2000 production, “Band Of Brothers”, which was produced by Steven Spielberg, and an appearance in the award winning and highly acclaimed British Film, “London To Brighton”. He’s also appeared in several BBC drama and comedy series, often as a series regular, and has recently reprised his role as Liam McGuire in BBC1’s daytime drama Doctors. His CV is too long and comprehensive to mention in any detail here, but you can find more information by searching for Tim Matthews at www.imdb.com
Despite Tim’s acting background, he is far from just another actor who fancies trying to be a singer. Firstly, he writes all his own material. Secondly, he’s an accomplished musician. And finally, he really can sing! Tim’s decision to finally break out and make a serious endeavour of making music was prompted by an opportunity which arose in 2006. To cut a long story short, he was persuaded that his talents should no longer remain hidden and that he should try and write enough material for an album. And so he did. Within 10 weeks, he had as many songs and found himself in Appletree Studios recording his first album, “Somebody Else”.
Spurred on by the warmth and enthusiasm with which previews of the album were received, Tim formed a band with talented musicians Graham (G) Denham on drums and Guy Slator on Bass. The recent addition of Jimmy Evans on second guitar has broadened the scope of the band’s sound and brought some added dynamism to their stage presence. The band have already enjoyed successful live performances at London’s Clapham Grand and Bullet Bar, Camden, as well as an appearance at The Jericho Tavern in Oxford, Tim’s place of birth. Each performance yields an enthusiastic response and leaves Tim’s powerful lyrics and melodies resonating in people’s hearts and minds.
As a consequence of all the positive activity surrounding Tim’s music, it wasn’t long before he was approached by record label Crash Records. Impressed by the maturity of his song writing and the quality of his voice and guitar playing, they soon made an agreement with Tim and his management, NewOrbit Music, to release his album, “Somebody Else” and two singles, “Taking Chances” and “Extraordinary”, the first of which is due for release later this summer (2007) with the album scheduled for release in early Autumn.
Tim Matthews’ music represents honesty, integrity and the human condition. His lyrics are written, always, from his personal experience and his true feelings and thoughts, and his music is centred on melody and intuition. You will hear more fashionable bands; you will see more curious spectacles. But you will have to search long and hard to find music with the clarity, emotional honesty and lyrical texture that characterises the music of Tim Matthews.
Thanks for a beautiful acoustic set on Saturday's Melting Pot. Your voice was in fine form.
I think it was perfect how all the acts worked in between the rugby - so you and everyone there could see the final, and enjoy the live sets too - plus, you were brilliantly sympathetic to people's enthusaiasm for the game.
Shame your band made the decision not to play, but you did a great set yourself in their absence.
Hey Tim. Great Gig last night. I really enjoyed myself. Hopefully get to see you live again soon. You told me to keep asking about a guitar lesson so heres my first little reminder. Anyway hope your ok.
Thanks so much for stepping in last minute for last night's Melting Pot.
You have a really strong voice and you put on a fab performance. (Sorry bout the technical problems tho)
Looking forward to seeing you back for an open mic session at next Sunday's (26th Aug) Power Cut (www.myspace.com/powercutoxford... plug plug) and with the full band Melting Potting again in October!
