Jirah (Tim McCall) is known for creating energetic and atmospheric trance music, although the Jirah name has occasionally been associated with a more downtempo style. Raised in a very musical family, he learned much about music and the importance it plays in our lives.
He was drawn early on from the age of 12 to 80's pop and early techno music, leading him to experiment with various instruments and digital processing. At age 16 he began to dj a mixture of house and progressive trance. His first exposure to goa/psy music came with the release of the "Blue Room / Trip Through Sound" compilation in 1997, which did much to influence him to dj and ultimately produce this type of sound. Jirah was formed in 1997 first as a dj name then soon after as the artist name.
Tim's debut album Outer Access was released in 2003 on USTA Records, receiving strong reviews and acclaim worldwide. Considered part of the "new wave" of psytrance, his unique approach gave the music a story-like quality while remaining psychedelic throughout. Tim does not view his music in terms of genre or style, but rather as an interpretation of feelings and thoughts. This has led him to create a diversity of music over the years that has far surpassed his initial efforts. Since the release of Outer Access, Jirah music has appeard on labels such as Dragonfly, Aleph Zero, Organic, Harmonia, Synergetic and PsyCore to name a few.
Since his first live show in 2001, he has played throughout the world, from Europe to Asia to the Americas. Whether playing to a crowd of 200 or 2000, the energy Tim's music creates will not be forgotten. Expect to see Jirah soon on a dancefloor near you!
