Sounds Like
when your mom and dad got together to have you...... A great idea at first, and then your dad was like..."woahhhh, can we afford this", and mom said "babe, remember the Eagles song, Love Will Keep Us Alive?"..... and then your dad said "Margaret, will you cut the crap with the Eagles songs?" then your mom stormed off into the bedroom and your dad just sat there stressed out. Tim sounds like that.
Tim McGlone's debut album delivers a fresh, original compilation of soulful Philadelphia folk rock.
"Street Sounds" is backed by The Turn, McGlone's band and the driving force in bringing his music to life. The Turn is comprised of McGlone, Vince Pizii, Phil Dykhouse and Jonah Delso, a Drexel student and fellow songwriter who last summer opened for Coldplay at the Wachovia Center.
Anyone that has seen Tim McGlone perform live has witnessed his confidence and charisma. McGlone harbors a knack for engaging his audience, whether it's with his band or solo acoustic.
"I was living in an apartment right next to the freeway, and I kind of woke up one morning and street sounds came to my mind. I was listening to the traffic mixture - there's horns honking, there's police sirens, all that kind of stuff right in the middle of rush hour traffic. But I used to wake up every single morning and hear the same sounds," McGlone said.
"Street Sounds" is McGlone's story of love, friendship, and loss, how you wake up the next morning to the same old sounds and life goes on.
"Street Sounds" presents a colorful collage of McGlone's own brand of smooth indie rock. Among song titles are "Paradise Behind Me," a worthy opening track. Impressively produced, the song has a funky drive and is an excellent introduction to his laid back rhythmic rock stylings. The album features its share of emotional ups and downs with tracks like "Confidence" and "Breakdown." "Knocking On My Wall" is a bit of a return to his folk roots, boasting an upbeat tone reminiscent of Counting Crows mixed with screaming slide guitar. Originally from Chester Springs, Pa., Tim McGlone derives his rhythm and blues infused folk rock from a combination of Motown and singer songwriter influences, in addition to bands like Travis, Oasis and Coldplay. After graduating college in Philadelphia, he formed the acoustic-folk duo The Limericks with fellow musician Jim Hanft. From 2006 to 2008, the two lived in California while performing various prestigious venues before McGlone was drawn back to his true love - Philly. Once back, he began playing with The Turn and breathed air into the project that was "Street Sounds."
"They are really solid so I knew that if I brought these songs back home to record, they would really translate well with these guys," McGlone said.
What's next?
"The ultimate goal is to be a rock star," he said. "In reality the next goal is to conquer Philadelphia, be what people think of when they think of their top four favorite Philly bands."
