There is a principle in physics called the Heisenberg Uncertainty, explained by the fact that the more precisely the position of a moving object is known, the harder it is to determine its momentum or direction. It is portrayed by a two and a half hour, three-actor play by Michael Frayn called Copenhagen, which not only addresses the brilliance and moral conflict behind the development of the atomic bomb, but also the way the world we live in reflects the subtle characteristics of what it means to be human. We can spend a lot of time thinking about who we are and where we are in life. But ponder the thought too long, and the more important perspective of which direction we are going and how quickly becomes difficult to see. Without purpose or destination, the question of who we are is irrelevant.
Music
My favorite band is Stavesacre. I first heard of them in 1996 when I saw them in concert with my dad at a surf festival in Pensacola, Florida. I hated them then as much as my dad did. When I moved from Pensacola, a couple of friends gave me their debut album, Friction, and I listened to it all the way through. Then again. And again. Ever since, I've been hooked on the band's unique artistic fusion of metalcore rock and spiritual poetry. Click here for their MySpace profile.
Movies
My favorite movie is Into the Wild. It is a film based on a book that was given to me by a good friend when he heard that I would leaving home and traveling to Norway. I read the book in the summer of 2007 and fell in love with the story. When I heard that Sean Penn was putting the story on the big screen, I knew that it would be a favorite before I even saw it - by myself in Seattle's Neptune theater - days before I left the States. The soundtrack by Eddie Vedder has also become some of my favorite music.
Books
Recommended to me by a good friend, one of my favorite books is Pilgrim at Tinker Creek by Annie Dillard, published in 1974. It was her first book of prose, a follow up to her book of poems called Tickets for a Prayer Wheel. At times, I have a hard time knowing whether Tinker Creek is actually prose or poetry, due to her remarkable ability to describe the simplest and yet most beautiful characteristics of the natural world.
I have been traveling back and forth over the past couple years between Norway and the States. I am currently in Moscow, Idaho figuring out what to do next. I spend a lot of my free time on video editing.
Chelsea, Maverick, and I plan on traveling instead of buying a house after we get married so don't be too surprised if we stop by your bar within the next couple of years. Maybe you could show us how to live in Norway!
Is that you pullin that grab in the photo? Is it spring weather there yet? It's only got above 70 once here so far and today it was maybe low 50s. I hear Silver is still open on the weekends.
Yeah, I want to visit Europe but I also have been seeing a girl from Australia and we're talking about going there for a bit this year. Don't know if I have the time for both but I'll definitely let you know if I'm heading your direction. I hit a pheasant with the Dodge so now the grill is missing a tooth:( How's things with you, did you get a job over there?
The recording is all finished actually, you should check out the magic mirrors page and give 'em a listen. Let me know what you think, if you get the chance.
I would definitely consider a trip to Norway, that could be really cool, especially having you to show me around since you have been there for awhile now, I remember talking with you in Bucers about the perfect time to travel being the summer after graduation. Yipes, just the possibility of it excites me!
Where are you at now? Are you working yet or still sight seeing?
I absolutely love it man, I think its amazing, some of the best stuff he has ever written. Have you seen the Pearl Jam DVD from their tour in Italy last summer? Incredible.
Hey man Happy birthday! I hope it was a memorable one...I am already feeling this loss to Norway of a good friend! I hope to see you very soon and wish you the best of luck over there! Im sure whatever you end up doing will make you very happy! Im gonna miss ya kid...keep in touch!
I am sad to miss the party, I really wish I could be there!! I am thinking about heading up to Seattle while you are there, that would be fun. I will let you know when I know for sure.
