About me:
I grew up in South St. Paul, Minnesota. I was the only child in my family to attend college. I graduated from the University of Minnesota and practiced law in the private sector. My public service career began serving as a Hennepin County prosecutor, Eagan City Councilman, and ten-year member of the Minnesota House of Representatives. In 1998, the Minnesota House of Representatives elected me majority leader after the Republican Party took control of the chamber for the first time in a decade. I was elected governor in 2002, with the state facing a $4.5 billion budget deficit--the largest in state history.
