Tim King Reporter West Coast/Afghanistan/Iraq's Interests
General
Time with my wife and kids, all forms of reporting and photography, surfing, sports cars, military history, aviation.
Music
Not very into country, I really prefer modern alternative rock though I know the classics very well. I like jazz and the blues and I have a lot of respect and admiration for gospel and soul, of course I was raised on punk and Black Sabbath.

No matter what, I hope we always keep our hearts open to those who have served during this painful time in our nation's history. Being against the war is fine, but nobody should alienate the people who serve. Being supportive is not endorsing a policy, it is just being a decent human being. This support has to always continue because military personnel in Afghanistan and Iraq, Desert Storm, Vietnam and many wars before that, have scars that most people don't understand. I have now been to a war and I have a more clear understanding of the things I have always read about. Being against what politicians do and being against the people who served are separate things. I defend your right to dissent, but if people fail to respect my brothers and sisters who serve and cause veterans mental anguish, then that person is an enemy of what I believe in.
Check out the report below that I did for KPTV, Oregon's FOX-12 and Salem-News.com from Afghanistan in early 2007. It shows machine guns fire on Taliban positions... yeah it's at night, but being there was something I'll never forget.
This next video, below, is also from the war in Afghanistan. This is the first of several five-minute segments of raw video from a foot patrol that I went on with the Oregon National Guard "outside the wire" in Kabul, Afghanistan. The entire patrol, about 45-minutes in length, is posted here in my MySpace videos. Watch for some offensive language.
The next video, below, is the first seven minutes of a documentary I am working on from the two-months in Afghanistan. I ended up with almost 25-hours of great video footage and it was all recorded on top quality Panasonic DVCPRO gear and a Sony XL2. Broadcast groups that are looking for program length documentary work or just footage by the minute should contact me. I have a great variety of stories from the war in areas including Kabul, Bagram, Mezz, Mazur-e-Sharif, firebases in the Pesh Valley, Gardez, Ghazni, and many other places. Watch for some offensive language in the opening song.

This report from Tim King, titled, Helicopters Thunder Across Afghanistan" shows two of the helicopters used commonly in the war, the Chinook and the Blackhawk, flying over the cold, snow packed mountains of Afghansitan. This report ran on Salem-News.com. Tim was embedded in the war for two months over the winter of 2006/07.
Tim King Reporter West Coast/Afghanistan/Iraq's Blurbs
About me: I am a news reporter, I live in Oregon with my wife Bonnie and sons. I grew up in Huntington Park, California until I was 16, when my family moved to Morro Bay. I went to Morro Bay High and then spent three years in the Marines.
By the way, if you hover over these photos on the filmstrip below there are captions...
We are some of the people behind Salem-News.com, a very cool news Website for Oregon and the whole world. Check it out, you might learn something really interesting.
I spent the winter of '06/'07 in Afghanistan as an embedded reporter with the 41st Combat Brigade of the Oregon National Guard. Depending on how things go, I may go back to cover more stories this summer. All of the stories that I did are available to see at www.Salem-News.com under "Dispatches from Afghanistan."
Going there was a very moving experience and I hope people understand that people there deserve to live without war some day. The Coalition forces are bringing the Afghan people more peace than they have known in decades.
Who I'd like to meet: I'm really busy with Salem-News.com and I would like to be here to share information about what the heck is going on out there. I want to add friends that want updates on stories from the war and other stories as well, maybe what I post here will have more of an edge than the pieces I produce for mainstream news, the possibilities are big!
I'm getting a good ration for the photo below, I am telling people it is the future appearance of women of Afghanistan. My wife tells me I'm dreaming, but a person can hope! Burqas are bad; but veils can be very sexy!

“We can climb outta hell one inch at a time” We’ve all been stuck in a rut, down on our luck, out of a job, going through a bad break up, losing a loved on – each of us has experienced a sense of personal ‘hell’ and when you’re in it – you feel like you’ll never get out, that it’s all too overwhelming to bear. It’s so much easier to give up and say “I can’t” – but it’s those individuals, those entrepreneurs, those businesses who face adversity and journey through hell, yet have the patience and persistence to move forward, inch by inch, who will stand above all the rest and see the most success in the end.
